Post by: chessie4905 on July 13, 2021, 07:00:39 PM
Anybody from California or general area of country know of any location with a lot of them sitting for parts?
Will be in Calif. in a few weeks on our trip and could check out any locations. Thanks.

Coach Maintenance in Williams CA may have some. See Ted Campbell up there. Or you could email him ahead of time. It is on their website.

Also could call Charlie at A to Z Bus in Sacramento and see what they might have. :^

There was someone in Perris CA (east of Los Angeles), who had some fishbowls for movie work.  If memory serves, he also had parts available for sale.

If nobody here has a better memory or more information, try contacting someone at Orange Empire Trolley Museum (in Perris) -- they may be able to supply knowledge.

Arthur -

I heard thru the grapevine he passed away and his kids have been selling off everything, but haven't confirmed that rumor.

The other fellow in SoCA that has a fleet of buses for movie work is Scott Richards, he can be contacted thru Facebook on the various bus pages. Don't know if he's selling any of his fleet or parts, tho.

FWIW & HTH. . . ;)

Will the super V work for you  to build the overdrive ?

No. Need the overdrive section out of the  VS2-6. Already have an 8, but its overdrive is too high.

Another possibility might be Rochester City Lines in Rochester MN.  If I recall, they are/were the operating contractor for the local transit authority, but also maintained their own historical fleet.  Of course, I might be all wet because I've not been up there, don't know the people.

You guys trying to remember Loren Joplin in Perris CA.
I bought a fishbowl 4:11 rear end from him.
He had lots of Fishbowls when I drove from Canada to his place in Perris and hauled the rear end back.
I just sold that rear end I bought from Loren this year, held on to it as i found a 4:10 rear end which I installed 1999
What parts are you looking for I have 2 fishbowls  here that i am parting out. :)

A whole vs2-6 transmission.
Funny, I went to Florida from Central Pa. on a road trip in our 03 tdi Jetta to get a 4:11 differential for our 4905. Hauled in trunk. Made her squat though.

I have a complete VS 2-8 and VH9 both in operating condition. The VS2-8 came out of Fishbowl Brian's 68 5303  and the VH9 came from my fishbowl when I installed the V730 :)

I have a good VS2-8, I got from Luke. Just need the overdrive section from theVS2 -6, but a whole one would be fine.

Why wouldn't using the 1.04 final drive V730 give you the same results using the Vs2-8 I have seen a few of those before

VS2-8 has a large ratio change between direct and overdrive. You end up slowing up too much before you can downshift to direct to avoid engine over rev. VS2-6 change is close to a regular auto trans ratio change.
