Just got through rebuilding my water pump On my 4108a with a 8v71 and I've got a heck of a water leak coming out of the weep hole. I used the new kit part number 23506366 which superseded 5197509. Just wondering if I should've put some sort of sealant between the impeller and the seal before torquing the impeller down onto the shaft. Any ideas of what I might have done wrong? Leak is about the size of a pencil lead. Thanks for any help..
I'm thinking the seal must have got damaged putting it back together?
Yes pulled cover off pump last night, pulled impeller and found seal was cracked/split not sure how it did that by just putting the impeller on but I have new seal ordered. Seal was fine after I pressed it into housing so I guess when impeller went on it split????

I would while your waiting for the seal is double check everything make sure bearings are seated etc. Good luck!
Well it's not my fault the seal failed. I took seal out and you can see that when it was pressed together at the factory it pealed back the metal.
Then when I tightened down the impeller that broke the hard plastic part of seal. Which I think was most likely already cracked from being stressed from the pealed back metal. And you can beat I'm checking everything now as I don't want take this apart again. Such fun....
Aftermarket seals can and do have flaws I don't waste my time with one any more and some DD dealers will try and pass one off on you
