The rear wheels on my 72 MCI 5B have 11R20 tires tube type tires. I understand the 11R22.5 tires will fit these wheels. Is there a difference between the wheels for tube and tubeless tires? I would think the valve neck would be the difference as the tubeless one is attached to the wheel.
they will NOT fit! Need to get 22.5 rims. Maybe someone here nearby has takeoffs when they switched to aluminum.
That's what I thought until I read somewhere that it would fit. Doesn't make sense that a 20" and a 22.5" tire would fit the same wheel. What made me double check was the rim diameter is the same, although the width might be different. I have 11R22.5s on the front.
Actually 10.00 x 20" are the same as 11R-22.5. The 11 x 20 is the same as 12R-22.5. But- weight wise you can easily use 11R-22.5, either 14ply or 16ply. And 11R-22.5 are very common. The rim you need is a 8.25" x 22.5" for the 11R-22.5. There's a real good reason tubeless tires are used now-they are SO much more reliable and heat resistant. Do yourself a favor and switch to the 11R-22.5.
I have 11R-24.5 since they are about 2 inches taller. The 11R-22.5 are about 500rpm tires. The 11R-24.5 are 476rpm tires. Good Luck, TomC
Those maybe the original tires and rims 11 x 20, which is what my tire plate says but the rim for those tires are 8.00 wide and the rims for the 12R-22.5 or 11R-22.5 are 8.25 wide.
Tube type wheels have some kinda of a locking system for mounting and dismounting I have 10.00x20 on a school bus and a fire truck
Thanks for the input! I will definitely be going all 11R22.5s. I think I'll need different rims to go tubeless anyways.
