Had problems on last trip and was lucky to get in to see a good mechanic. He fixed my bad engine run relay and we spent a few minutes looking at my engine box. Suggested I replace the big Racor filter and spin on fuel filter with a newer one he showed me on a new bus. The racor I have is old style, hard to change the filter, needs primed, and although having a secondary fuel filter has advantages, the two of them cost me about 4 or 5 horsepower. New filter is easy open, drop the cartridge in and fire it up. No prime needed.
Filter on my Trani is the old bolt on from the bottom kind and developed a slow and minor leak when I first start it up. Once warm is seems to seal up, but I am getting it replaced next month with another of the same since it will be a while before I can convert. That filter are getting hard to find. He said there is a change I can make so I get rid of the bolt on kind, prone to leaking, and replace with the spin on kind. I will need a new housing to make the change. Said we need to know what size hose fitting comes into the filter. Anyone have that housing laying around or know a source? I will air up the bus when it quits raining so it sits a little higher and take wrenches under there to see what size hose.
Worthwhile changes?
Thanks.
They are 1 inch hoses and you can get the spin on base and filter from Ballwin Napa can order it
Thanks. Any concerns with this or good ideas both?
