Post by: lostagain on March 23, 2021, 08:43:57 AM
What is the proper spelling for the plural of bus? Buses, or busses?

Asking for a friend...

Both are used, but "buses" is more common.

Image result for Buses or Busses
The plural form of bus is buses. To be fair, a few dictionaries do list busses as an alternative plural form of bus. But it appears so rarely that most people would view it as a spelling error. The buses start running early in the morning.

Pretty sure there aren't any examples in the English language of adding "ses" to a noun to create it's plural. Can't think of any anyway

Jeremy

PS. A "fleet" is the obvious collective term for regular buses, but what would it be for bus conversions? A Quartzitite?

Buses or busses are both plural for bus. But give me a buss and you'd give me a kiss. Good Luck, TomC
