Stripped all of the probably 40 year old don't work anymore day/night shades out of our 1980 shorty Prevost and put in night only pull down shades. New shades pull down and go up easily and install was easy to do with all the valences out of the way as we are putting new upholstery on them. A veteran of many miles in RV's before I got this bus, be thinketh the shades will want to come down a bit on their own during travel and bang against the valence frames (noise) as we bounce down the road. Any inventive ideas on how to keep them up and quiet but easy to "un-do" when stopped for the night? Thinking of trying a little bungee screwed into the wood behind the blind and having a hook in front. Easy to do/ un do but holds it up while travelling. Afraid any velcro idea will wear out. Better ideas?
Thanks, Ted
My shades have strings that can be tightened to adjust tension. I used the foam weatherstripping tape used for doors to stop the banging.
Velcro strips?
Perhaps a strip of fabric leftover from the valence project sewn into a 1" wide belting? Secure one end behind and above the blinds, and the other install the grommet for a twist-lock fastener. Mount the twist-lock on the back side of the valence so it's out of sight.
All it would take to secure before travel is to fasten the fabric strip below the blinds, and then when you arrive you can just twist the fastener and let them hang behind the blinds where they'll be out of sight.
Thank you all! Had the strings in 2 RVs and they needed adjustment too often as they age. These are good quality but just pull down, and push back up. Put foam on back of valence to quiet. Like Richards idea with a snap. Will see what the gets approved by the Rita.... My neighbor though of magnets, but shades are in plastic frames. We'll come up with something. Hopefully easy to do, un do.
Good ideas. Thanks.
Ted
You can glue little magnets and metal pieces if necessary to hold them. Michael's and other sources sell strong little magnets with matching metal backers. Flexseal in appropriate color to attach. That stuff really holds!
Rita likes the magnet idea. We will re visit that. Thanks Chessie.
