Title: So, anyone got an extra spindle/steering knuckle for an MCI-9???
Post by: Christyhicks on February 28, 2007, 05:08:54 PM
So, we finally got the kingpin out  ;D and now we need to find a new/replacement spindle/steering knuckle for our MCI-9. :'(  If anyone out there is parting out an 8 or 9 and has a spindle they'd be willing to give up for a great price, please feel free to contact us.  If you want a good laugh, call MCI and ask them for a price on a new one, ha ha.  Sure makes those shells look more tempting as donor busses when you price new parts. . .for sure!  ;) Christy Hicks

Christy, I got some parts for the 4107 from Ed at Jefferson Truck, Trailer, & Bus in Oklahoma City - 800-813-9367.  I don't remember seeing any MCI's there, but I wasn't looking for them.  Probably worth a call, and worthwhile geographically for you.

Christy,
Give Sam Caylor up in KC area a call ! He specializes in used MCI parts! And he's not that far from ya! He ships fast and reasonable, but as close as ya'll are ya might wanna jump in the truck and go on up! Ain't no tell'n what else you'll find that 1 of ya just gotta have, so load up the truck with all kinds of goody's to bring home. But be sure to load the spindle first, it'd be terrible to get home with a truck load of only to discover ya forgot the main item.

Opps # for Sam is 785-878-3404

Christy, call Charles (my boss) at 940-325-2332.  We have a MC-9 that we are parting out which has the steering gear intact.

Tom Y-
That IS a turbo 8V71 & it also has a 6 speed (I think) Allison.. but judging from the condition of the rest of the bus I'd say they are pretty well used. Be a good project for an overhaul. I thought about it but my bus only has 247,000 total miles & engine overhaul 50,000 ago. I'd don't know why the former  owner did that, just liked spending money I guess. So do I buy the bus, take out a perfectly good 318 and manual tranny, replace it with a 350 & automatic of questionable reputation and have the bus not usable for a while..... Or do I keep what I got?

As Dirty Harry would say,

"The question is, busnut, do you feel lucky?  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I just don't know how lucky I may be....

Oldmansax, if it ain't broke, why fix it? maybe you're like the previous owner and just like spending money?

If you do decide to do the swap, why don't you budget for, and do a complete overhaul while its out?

Well, many thanks to those who responded to our plea for help :-*.

As it was, Sam Caylor was our hero for sure.  He sent us a complete steering knuckle assembly for a very reasonable price and after Larry got everything back together, well, . . . . yippeee ;D. . . whooohooo :D. . . . hooorrayyy ;D. . . . woweee :D. . . the tire is standing straight, just like it ought to be!

He's one tired fella tonight, :P but nothing will knock that grin off his face. . .it's been there since he re-mounted that tire and stood back to take a good look.  That was a lot of work, a LOT of work ;), but it was worth it.

Again, thanks guys for your help :-*.  Christy Hicks

Well, I just figured that anyone is welcome to e-mail me privately if they want more info. . .but didn't feel it would be proper to broadcast pricing publicly, as their prices can change and others may have difference pricing.  You see, if I have an abundance of 10 SEER a/c units that I bought last year when they were switching over to 13 SEER, I may give someone a "good deal" and then when I'm about out of those units, I may choose to sell them for more, or even for less.  If I publish "list prices", well, then I assume those are for broadcast, but if I don't, well, then I guess I would figure that what I charge one person may be different than the next, based on the specific circumstances of the sale.  This is just my opinion, others may vary.

Feel free to contact me privately for any specific details.  Christy Hicks

Christy I told you he was the man to call! Oh yeah by the way he might have giv'n you a little bit of a bigger break than the rest of us JOE'S because of yer sweet voice an all! But in all honesty Sam Caylor has always given me and everyone I know whos dealt with him a great deal on his parts! And if ya catch him with a spare moment or 2 his free advice is a pretty fair deal too! FWIW! BK  ;D
PS. I don't ever disclose his or anyone elses prices publicly for the exact same reasons Christy!   ;D
