Title: 8V71 Serial Question
Post by: TulsaDiesel on June 22, 2020, 08:07:59 AM
I have the opportunity to pick up a FREE 8V-71 block, crank and head - Serial 8VA3965 - 7083-7200. It appears that this block is an older industrial application unit, does anyone know if this block could be rebuilt for vehicle (MCI 5C bus) use?

It is a old dry block 8v71 really not worth the time and money to rebuild it  IMO ,the heads maybe worth saving if they have the 4 bolt on plates on the top the old hump heads with no plates are not worth much

Thanks luvrbus. I need to check the serial # on my 5C engine to verify, but I am fairly certain it is also an 8V71. Are all 8V71s dry liner blocks?

If it is the 5C original engine it will be either a 8V71 or a 6V71

They are all dry liners starting  with 16xxxx they went to water around cylinder walls.3965 is a early 8v71 about 1957 or early 1958 there is not many dry blocks left around they have been replaced over the years
