Title: Rubber hinge
Post by: henry on May 21, 2020, 10:17:41 AM
Can anyone tell me where a good place to buy rubber hinge for cargo bay doors on a 1968.   4107 GMC coach ...2 pieces per door required ...I find the rubber lasts only s few years would be nice if it was reinforced with thread or some webbing but if not the straight rubber would do

You're in luck.  There are alternatives.  There is one guy that sells stainless steel hinges that he had had made.  I may have his information somewhere.  There is another guy that was selling a fiber re-enforced rubber hinge.  I do not have his info, but I believe he call them something like buffalo hinges.

Call Luke.

There was a bad batch of the stuff sold a couple of years ago to many retailers, but I vaguely remember him telling me that he now has the good stuff again.

There are alternatives, but none work quite like the rubber does. I've found that the hinges last longer on the buffalo buses as since they are not exposed to the sun.

Don't forget to check out the condition of the rubber weatherstripping on the top edge of the door.

Lin, Stuart Bonney had the re-inforced rubber hinges but he died a few years ago.  Ed Gallant made the stainless steel hinges but i don't know if he still does or is even with us any more.....Ned over on the Grease Monkey site might know.

Lin i would like to find good rubber first , if i cant find it then a guess the stainless hinge would work  and the fellow your referring to i think lives in Oregon or Washington state and passed away , his son sold off all his tooling, unless there's another guy out there ?

richard5933  where can i find this Luke fellow and do you think he would ship to BC Canada ?  and ....the condition of the rubber weatherstripping on the top edge of the door is really poor and would love to replace it but have not been able to find a supplier , so if your aware of anyone let me know please

Luke @ US Coach in NJ: 1-888-262-2434

In my experience you can describe something to him and he'll know the part number and price by memory. He is great about shipping quickly.
