Title: Overfilled Spicer?
Post by: Nova Eona on April 25, 2020, 05:15:48 PM
Hi gang, was changing the transmission fluid on my 4104 recently and once the fluid had settled, found that I had overfilled slightly - when cold, it sits right around the 'hot' mark on the dipstick.  I'm planning to suck some back out to get it back to the 'cold' level, but figured I'd check on here in case these transmissions are known for just purging excess fluid harmlessly.

I've made that mistake several times in 40 years of ownership. Never any issues.

Had a buddy who believed in overfilling and letting things "find it's own level" as he said. I wouldn't do that to an engine, but aside from that and it sometimes being incredibly messy it did seem to work. Always seemed to me like it made for more work than it eliminated though.
