Title: GM Condenser Bay, How do you secure the floor?
Post by: Barn Owl on February 24, 2007, 08:58:58 PM
I want to move my genset to the condenser bay on my 4106. I was hoping that there would be something to attach a floor to. All I see are two little tabs at the back that hold the floor screen. They are not strong enough to hold the generator are they? How is this done on the GMs? Ideas, and if possible, photos would help.

Thanks

Any progress with this?

Phil, thanks for not letting this die.

Almost every GM I see online seems to have the genset in the condenser bay. There are obviously many examples out there running around, I just need someone to describe how theirs was done.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hey, B.O.!

Here's some shots of the old Blue Velvet's condenser bay. The previous owner had done the work prior to installing the "OhNo". The structure was aluminum tubing with a sheet aluminum floor over painted ext. plywood subfloor. It had no problems taking the weight of the diesel genset I put in there after these shots.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Brian,

Thanks for the photos, your documentation is incredible. It would be one thing to run out and take photos of a bus you have, but to have exactly what I wanted to see from a bus you no longer own is impressive.

With all of the GMs out there I am surprised that I didn't get a better response. :(

Thanks again,

Laryn

Hey, no sweat, Laryn. I take pictures, man. It's what I like to do. I just wish bustin' off tires was as fun/ easy.  8)

I can send you the hi-rez shots of that bay, and a LOT of other old 4106 images too, if you need 'em. I should take a look under the Buff and see what they did in there for the structure... of course, it could have been built different by GM than on the '06s.
