I am seriously contemplating building a new custom dash with all new gauges, etc. In looking at gauges online, most are sold in groups of 6 that do not include air pressure, pyro (for the turbo), etc. I would like to get gauges that match, and that have such lighting or backgrounds that are easily read day or night. My air gauge that I have now is very difficult to read at night because for some reason the lighting sort of cancels out itself and looks distorted. Now that I am having trouble with my tachometer, I plan to change the whole thing.
Any suggestions for nice gauges that match, have the full gambit, and are easily read at night or day?
Thanks all!!! Glennman
Have you considered digital instrumentation? Naturally, it requires new technology but it would be super adaptable and flexible. For example, a digital display or two could be custom designed to show all the necessary and desired measurements, notifications, warning messages, etc.
Existing sensors could be retained with the addition of analog to digital circuit. Installed at the sensor location would allow for digital signal wiring and transmission. It isn't a common solution but very doable these days.
Have you tried Speed Hut? https://www.speedhut.com/ (https://www.speedhut.com/)
They have a wide selection of gauges, including air gauges with warning. They can be customized to give the look you want, and you can set the range on most of them. You might have to add the air gauge to a standard kit to get the gauges you want, or you can pick each gauge individually.
I've got the GPS speedo from them and am quite happy with it. Easy to read LED lighting, and I added an LED dimmer so that I can adjust it to match my existing gauges' light levels.
Richard,
Have you tried the 0-60 elapsed time on you speedo yet?
mine goes crazy sometimes when I go under a long bridge!

Not yet. Didn't really see the point - better measured with a calendar than a speedo. Haven't had any issues with a bridge yet, but obviously tunnels can be a bit of a challenge for it. Fortunately there aren't too many of them of any consequential length. Love the accuracy, and have made lots of use of the altitude feature. Helps to know just how fast we're climbing.
The primary bitch about GPS based instruments is the need for view of sky. Engineers understand that and some GPS modules have the functions to maintain accuracy while out of view for a limited time. Other sensors such as direction and inertia factor into improved accuracy.
I like the Speedhut site. I've considered going with digital, but I prefer analog. I also like the GPS speedometer, since mine doesn't work anyway, and the small digital numbers in the corner of my Garmin GPS system are small and hard to see. I'm one of those guys that needs reading glasses for close up, but see far just fine. So, I find myself needing reading glasses to see the gauges and numbers, but not for driving, so my glasses are hanging low so I can see over them. It sucks to get old.
Thank you, Glennman
If you order from Speed Hut then, be sure to look through their available fonts. Some are easier to read than others.
We have a custom dash with ISSPRO instruments in our 4106. I added an EGT and a different water temp and fuel level with warning lights. ISSPRO has a full line of instruments and many different layouts as far as the face and pointer styles and colors. Their tech line is second to none. The techs you reach on the phone are helpful and know their products well. They even call you back if you leave a message!
