Hello Bus Board,
We have been taking care of this 1971 MC 7 for about 20 years now.
Searched the archives for info on a muffler but have come up empty.
Does anyone have a cross up for the MCI muffler, maybe a Nelson or Donaldson? Was on the phone with Donaldson today with no luck. MCI
will have them available but at cost of $1260.00.
Any help is appreciated, Peter
The people with MCI's will probably have a solution, paying $1260 would be crazy, about $1000 too much. Failing an exact match at a reasonable price, just measure what you have for pipe inlet and outlet, and the available space. There will be a generic muffler out there that will fit somehow. On Eagles, people have put on dual straight-thru glass packs that are a little louder, but reduce the back pressure.
Thanks Double Eagle, have been looking and will try Walker tomorrow. In the meantime I moved this post over to "Bus Topics".
I had to replace muffler on my MCI7 ( same as yours) several years ago. Inlet is 5", outlet on factory muffler was 4"; Donaldson replacement is 5" outlet. I used a 5" preformed 90 degree bend and 'massaged' the curve to make a tailpiece.
If I was to do it again, I would put one of the tiny 5" in and out "fart can" mufflers that the kids use nowadays on their diesel powered pickups. Way cheaper, and easier to install..just need a pit of 5" pipe and some clamps.
That also makes it road legal. I believe running with no muffler can be reason for a ticket from the troopers.
