Title: Ramblin Rose Sighting
Post by: richard5933 on August 20, 2019, 04:11:08 PM
Camped a few coaches from Ramblin Rose this week. Terry bought this 4106 a few months ago and is still doing some work updating things.

Most impressive is the Cummins 903 shoe horned into the engine bay and mated to the V730. Didn't know that was possible.

L10 will go in there too.

Big Transit in Toronto had New Flyers powered with side winders, D40-90's... rusted like almost nothing seen before...

Came with ZF,retarder equipped, burned them out constantly, so good old V730 retrofitted.

Good power.

Long gone.

Romantic story.

Happy coaching!

The 903 in that bus is a left turning Cummins, a transit authorly in CA gave those a try lol that is a huge engine for no more power than it makes

MCTS had 20 1987 NEOPLANS that had the L10 but with the VOITH transmission. The reason I was told that the V730 could only be paired with the 6V-92 since there was no right hand version of the V730 back then and certainly no left hand L10. The other 37 of those 1987 NEOPLAN's had the 6V-92/V730 combo.
I think CUMNINS still builds the 903 for the military and it's much improved.

George Lowrey converted that coach and smoked two V730 transmissions before detuning the engine some,, He always swore he would install a VS2-8 if it happened again... I had a -8 in my 06 behind a 71 series and had to install a 5:55 set of rear end gears to be able to drive it in the mountain west,, even then it would top out at 85.>>>Dan
