We installed an Atwood Air Command 15,000 w/ heat pump on our 4106. Quite happy with it, but I have nothing to compare it to. They are part of Dometic now, but it appears that they still have the Air Command line being sold under the Atwood name.

I installed two new Air Commands on my Eagle and both stopped cooling when driving thru Vegas on a hot day.  They stop working at about 107F degrees, as per their specs.  They are lightweight and quieter than some others and they have a remote control so you can control them while driving, but if you live in the south, I would avoid them.  If you live where it does not get hot they are fine.

I then bought a Dometic and it seems to cool more and stays running when it gets hot outside which is nice for an air conditioner to do.

I installed a AirCommand too without reading the fine print it never worked here in the desert heat not even at the 107F in the specs.I installed a Coleman mach 15 that does the job at 115F + but not real quite on high speed ,low speed it is ok

Has anybody used the portable air con units like these? Just place up front while driving.

I used one for a couple of years in my MC-9 and it worked great when it was close to 100 degrees F in SoCal when my two other roof airs would not keep up.  I would also run it all by itself when it was a bit warm in the bus as it was quieter than roof air units and I could talk to subscribers of Bus Conversion Magazine about why this is the best magazine in the word for anyone wanting to convert a bus.  Can you even believe that anyone would ask that question?  ;D

I exhausted mine out my Ticket Window, by removing the glass. Then when I traveled, I would put the unit behind the drivers seat and reinstall the window.

Hint: If you use one, do not install the castors if you plan on traveling with it in there.

I've used one in a house and they are marginally effective, at best. Maybe the one I had was not as good, and I can't imagine it doing any better than a roof top unit.

Correct, they will not cool as effectively as a rooftop unit, but they are quieter and for some folks, that is an advantage.   The BTU's are less for most portable units then rooftop units.

Unless the portable unit has BOTH an intake and an exhaust...

Your BTU are being gobbled up by air intrusion.

Value for money spent is pretty poor on these.

Save up and slap on a roof air, job done.

The reason for the suggestion was the reports that roof air was not working. :)

Sorry. Slap on/replace with a real roof air that isn't a charlatan.

Job done.

Someone want to launch a class action against a heat limited air conditioning unit?

Happy coaching!

Yep, I have one that I use in the shop.  It will drop the temp a bit then "stall out" -- it runs and runs but the temp doesn't drop any more.  It doesn't use much watts of electricity -- which is a good thing because it shouldn't because it doesn't do much.

Maybe I'm on another planet, but as a fulltimer I don't want a quiet roof air. It's my white noise to drown out the generator, truck traffic, loud campers, Walmart parking lot riff raff and barking dogs.

You're camping in the wrong places Scott. I hear birds singing, crickets chirping, frogs croaking, coyotes howling, etc.  I like sleeping with my windows and sometimes doors open. It is called wilderness camping.   ;D

All I hear is my tinnitus and a couple of voices in my head from non-existent people   :)
