Installing a remote start switch for my generators and I can't find the exact term for what I'm looking for:
I need a switch that is momentary on (to start the generator) off or neutral in center position and on in opposite rocker position but the on in the opposite rocker position needs to stay pushed down when I shut the generator down so that I don't have the hold it down until the generator fully shuts off.
It will be listed something like this:
(ON) - OFF - ON or maybe like this
Mom ON - OFF - ON
And here's an example:

McMaster-Carr. I got mine there to momentarily activate glow plugs, then move to start-run. Then to off to shut it down. When I first got the coach, I left it on glow plugs. (Didnt have momentary glow plug position, and ran down battery. Live and learn.
Scott send me a address I have some remote start panels from Onan I will send you one a momentary switch alone is not going to work without some aircraft wiring engineering
Thanks guys. That helps get me in the right direction. We have a McMaster Carr here in town but they claimed they didn't have such switches. Let me ask them again. Maybe it's an order only otem

A momentary switch is not going to do it alone lol break down and spend the 200 bucks for the Honda remote starter kit it comes with the relay and control module
You can also call Dick Wright at Wrico International. He has a box full of those types of switches and can probably send one out today. (541) 744-4333
I believe I have that same switch on my Wrico Generator I bought from him last year.

Here is what I used, just paste this into eBay:
12v remote control switch
I have an extra one: two channel, two fobs that I can mail you. It works 50 feet away!
Cliff, I already installed a switch mom on of on mom. It works perfectly. I have already started and stopped the generator from inside my bus with this switch. I just don't like that I have to hold down the off part until I know the generator is fully shut down.

That what they sell the module for on Honda you press the button it unloads the power and shuts down with no load,$200 bucks is pricey compared to a switch,my Onan unloads before it shuts down, also the panel with remote start, running light and hour meter was plug and play on the Onan lol 10 minute job to install
I got a wired remote system from these guys for my honda 7000 genny and it has worked every time . not like the wireless remote I had on another genny that only worked 10 % of the time . at the time it was $169 but this was 5 or 6 years ago

Mine is a toggle switch. Sorry. Here is same in rocker switch.
https://www.amazon.com/Genssi-Rocker-Switch-Momentary-Type/dp/B00DOHT0V6
The pinellas system is too pricey. I've build my extended run and extended my wiring harnesses for BOTH generators so now I have reliable wired remote start, shutdown, eco throttle control, and indicator lights inside the bus as well as extended run time capability for less than $100. Makes sense and cents for me.
Cheesie, that's momentary in both directions. I need momentary only one direction
Sorry, missed that. I've looked up a lot of rocker switches and none have momentary one side only. My guess is that the spring inside the switch is designed that they can't only do one side. You would have to take one apart to see if it can be changed, but, I doubt it. I use a toggle switch for that combination in my coach.
I thought the eBay link I gave you would do what you need, but maybe you didn't read it.
Here's some on ebay.

They all seem to be from the same seller, just different quantities.
Yes, they are easily available in toggle switches, but he wants a rocker switch.
See the first reply I posted with a link to a rocker switch. They are easily found all over the internet and even in some local auto parts stores.
And here's a SPDT rocker switch from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Sierra-International-RK19430-1-Resistant-Off-Mom/dp/B00B4C8HQ2/ref=sr_1_20?keywords=rocker+on-off-mom&qid=1563489588&s=automotive&sr=1-20
and a DPDT rocker from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Sierra-International-RK19930-1-Resistant-Neoprene/dp/B00B4C9SHO/ref=sr_1_24?keywords=rocker+on-off-mom&qid=1563489646&s=automotive&sr=1-24
That first one is momentary on both sides, according to description. I suspect the other one may be the same.
The second one is momentary on both sides also

Looks like Amazon has the listing title different from the listing description. Wouldn't be the first time. My point was that they are out there.
Here's a link to the switch body from a place that lets you really customize the switch to get it configured how you need:
https://rockerswitchpros.com/product/v7d1-a60b/
And here's the page where you can customize the actuator (rocker) part:
https://rockerswitchpros.com/switch-actuators/
Site actually looks pretty cool - a little more money but you can design the switch to say whatever you need.
Geoff,
I did indeed search eBay for 12 volt remotes but they are all merely on and off. I need to start the generator and shut it down. The on and off remotes wouldn't do that. The remote start kits for cars have a shut down timer which isn't easily defeatible either...so that's out. The easiest most reliable thing for me to do was extend the wiring harness on the generators up into the living area of the bus. I did that without any issue. But now I just need rocker switches which it looks like I can find online at some of the links posted here. Much thanks for those links. Thanks for the help. Now I know what they are called and can find something that works for me.
I have installed mom on both sides switches in the meantime and my system is up and running and works flawlessly. Cliff, the original key start on these Honda's doesn't unload them. You have to manually unload them before you shutdown, so I guess I I've always done that and didn't see the need to spend $400 on a set of two systems when I could build my own for $100.
Those switches look to be just what he needs. Definitely not a common rocker switch. I wonder if they will sell only one. I like that you can get custom covers etched. Great find.
The switches I was talking about use a FOB and stay on until you release the button. Oh well, worked for me.
Oh, I should add that while ideally you want to take the load off the Genny before you shut her down I have had so many instances of the generator shutting down from heat at full load I don't worry about that anymore,. I just concentrate on keeping it running cool so it doesn't shut down.
Wouldn't MCI rocker switches work?
Jim
They should if they have one that is on-off-momentary on.

Geoff, ok now my interest is peaked. Help me find the ones you used...I'm interested...if I can hold down the button and it activates the starter until it's let go and then the other button shuts it down...that would work for me.
Okay-- FOB activated on-off remote switches.
Paste this on eBay:
12v remote control switch
You'll see a bunch of boxes and key FOBs. Hook the start switch to one, the stop switch to stop. As long as you are pushing on either button it will stay activated. So it will work on the stop that requires a long wait.
What you will need is a 4 unit model since you have two generators. A 4 unit will use 4 different frequencies controlled by the FOBs.
Instructions are included and they sell cheap from China. I've had one on my Honda air compressor for a couple of years.
