Title: Replacing Rear Driver Axel Hub Seal
Post by: Glennman on July 14, 2019, 09:52:16 PM
Hello fellow bus nuts...

I have a 1974 MC-8, and I'm working on the rear drive axel hub seal. The part that the oil seal fits over at the shaft is slightly scored around the perimeter. I've sanded it down, but the scores are still there. In my parts manual, it shows that part as being a separate part with a part number. It is the "shoulder" that the seal fits on. It is called the Wiper-Oil Seal (15C-3-12). My questions are... does anyone know how to remove this, or is it even removable? Does it unscrew? Any suggestions on a fix?

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you all... Glennman

If it actually has one, it is driven on with a mallet or hammer carefully with a block of wood or an installer. They make wheel seals that have the sealing surface internal to the seal, so a groove like that doesnt effect sealing, since it will now be a metal to metal interface. I'd  call Luke at US Coach. He can get you the correct seal and replaceable rub ring if it has one and needs replaced and how to remove and install if they don't  make the internal type seal that fits it.

Thank you chessie4905. I hear Luke's name tossed around a lot here. I'll try giving him a call.
