Title: Perkins 4.108 lift pump install question
Post by: richard5933 on May 15, 2019, 06:16:06 AM
I decided to change out the fuel lift pump (low pressure pump) on the generator's Perkins. It has a fuel seepage, and I was able to get a new one for only a few bucks.

Before doing what appears to be a simple job I had a question. There are two bolts which hold the pump to the engine. I assume that the basic install will go like any other low-pressure pump in that regard. There are also two fuel lines - in and out. The line coming from the tank is fed by a Bosch electric pump at the tank, which gets fuel from the bus's main fuel tank.

When I separate the line coming from the Bosch fuel pump, do I need to be prepared to have the contents of the main fuel tank siphon out onto the ground while I'm swapping pumps?

Also, while I'm asking, I've never worked with fuel lines using the rubber olive seals. New seals came with the pump. Any advice on putting in the new seals? Or anything that I should expect to be problematic with this?
