Title: I'm Baaaaaaack! And I finally bought an 8v92 for my 9
Post by: RickB on April 25, 2019, 05:09:56 AM
Found an 8v92 in a 102 for a good deal and I bought it. Took about three and a half hours to pull it with a knowledgable MCI mechanic. Got it home on the cradle and need some input. I'm going to change out my 8v71 jakes and put them in the new engine. Is there anything I should know about this??? I know they need to be adjusted for the engine, so should l just wait and have a mechanic do that? Second, I took all the intake and exhaust plumbing but my guess is I'm going to need a different air filter assembly as the 102's assembly is totally different. Could use some input on both these issues. Appreciate it! Finally, the drivetrain I wanted from day one!

If the jake heads say 71/92 on them, they can be used in both engines, is my understanding.  The exhaust valve bridges do not exhange between the two engines, you need to get 8V-92 bridges.  I think the fuel pipes will be OK.  If they are the flare type and not the O-ring type, they can crack when being reinstalled.

You need the fuel stands and injector fittings to change from flare to 0-rings it is expensive to change from the flare type, flare type are 7 bucks ea and the o[ring type are around 15 bucks ea at DD just the lines FWIW those line come in short or tall I buy the tall they easier to work with

Are you going to modify the cooling system?

What size? Details...? Please?
You must not have heat issues or you wouldn't be going to the 8v92...
But this has always been a topic of interest.

They were considerably thicker than 8v71 radiators. I got them out of Chicago.

What is the HP rating on the 8v92 MCI's were just 360 hp with a 8v92ta from the factory you get 450 to 475 hp in a MCI 8 it's going to over heat you are going to need to change the intake and exhaust system
