Title: Fuel prices
Post by: chessie4905 on March 01, 2019, 06:48:17 AM
I like to watch the business news every morning for about an hour. Last week an "analyst" predicted fuel  prices would climb noticeably this year. I'm thinking yeah right. How does he know? We're pumping oil here in increasing amounts every time prices rise, tending to mute price spikes.
Anyway, this article came up on CNBC this morning. I see why now. I guess best deal is to keep our tanks full. Another arrow in the heart of coach conversion lifestyle. Oh well😡

Remember in July 2014 diesel was $4.25 or so a gallon, here we go again.

I check this site every month  I also do some spot checks with Gas Buddy around the country for diesel , which is a bit odd because I haven't gone hardly anywhere  in the last 6 months, but I was planning a trip to Padre Island National Seashore for spring break.

There was a crazy diesel war going on just north of me in MN here for a while, I filled up at $2.45/g while everything  in Minneapolis area was $3.00 or higher.   I've also noticed our diesel has remained stable at $2.89-$2.99 for months now, even while 4 wheeler gas was down around $2.00 , something didn't seem right about it all.

In the mean time I'll be making sure I'm running my tires at 110-120psi trying to squeeze a bit more MPG out of it.  I know that has a bit factor because when I had one side of duels down to 65-70lbs I got 4 mpg.

John,

Diesel goes up every winter(more demand--about the same as home heating oil--charge more).  Also, it goes up every time there is some sort of perceived bad news event in the world.

They find endangered snails in the sand in Texas, which might impact drilling for oil---BOOM!  the price goes up.
Any excuse is not too minor to bear significant consideration.

Let a dairy farmer or dairy coalition try that-- they will be in jail!

Just my wacky thoughts!

That's right, but 3 million gallons of high sulphur fuel oil requiring shifting to low sulphur fuel is going to put a crimp in refiners to meet the demand. Better for the enviorment but more costly to provide it, at least initially.

I like to buy as much fuel each year as possible which means putting as many miles on my bus as I can.  When the next war breaks out, they may ration fuel again and how much you get will be based on how much you used the previous year and I want plenty of fuel after the next war starts so I can continue to travel.   ???

Wow, I like that attitude! When I grow up (bus is usable) can I spend all my money and then some on fuel to travel please?  :P

Diesel is about $2.60/gal. in Charlotte NC now (some places, others are $2.99 -- I even saw one place last week at $3.99).  Two weeks ago, there was a place on I-85 about 60 miles north of Charlotte at $2.44, it's up to $2.89 now.
I think that there's price rigging and sometimes a maverick jumps out and cuts prices to increase his volume the others make him "an offer he can't refuse" and forces him to get back in line.

Barstow, Ca.  #2 diesel----$4.95 a gallon.  I guess the new governor has come up with yet another "Go Fund Me" scheme. Jack

When you are headed west from Arizona on I-40 towards CA, you best fill up at Exit 9, 9 miles from the California border, because in a few miles you hit hit Needles, CA, and the gas/diesel prices jump up .75-1.00 gallon, and they don't go down much heading into the "Golden State".

We bought fuel in AZ on Tuesday for around 2.70.  It was a dollar more in CA. 4.95 is out of line even for CA.

Fuel here in Mohave Valley averages $2.40 to $2.50 per gal gasoline jumped .10 cents this week, there was talk about adding more taxes but instead they added a 32 dollar per year public safety fee to our registration  sorry jokers AZ has a surplus of cash,3 million regisisterd vehicles x $32.00 a lot of cash for a agency to waste

Won't take them long to fritter that away and be back for more. What is the point of being a politician unless you can spend money?
