Post by: tjallen0754 on January 30, 2019, 06:44:53 PM
I need to replace the bearings on the tag axle. Froze up on last trip out. This is a 1980 TMI/MCI MC9. I am having trouble finding model numbers for those bearings. any help or direction would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Do you mean TMC/MCI? Check on the bearing the number is generally stamp on it.

If you haven't already done so, inspect the surface where the bearings ride. If they spun on the spindle surface, the result is the new bearings won't adjust properly, and wheel will be a little bit loose, leading to incorrect brake adjustment, and causing issues with oil sealing and constant leaking after low miles. Btdt. If your spindle is truly damaged, there are outfits that can replace them on site if they aren't removable.

If that is like the newer MCI it is a sleeve bearing.  They are not easy to replace and costly.  If you call MCI tech number with your vin number they can help and will have the parts.  In case you don't have there number here it is.   800-241-2947

   Hi;
      Replaced l/h tag axle bearing last year. One bearing was $250  and the other was $85. Check with Luke. If no parts  book to
      get a MCI number, again, check with luke. He can cross reference it for you.
