Title: Just for fun -- Meatballs
Post by: Sebulba on January 11, 2019, 10:20:13 AM
I was just watching the Bill Murray movie Meatballs and I think the buses for Camp Mohawk are Buffalo Buses.

Kinda cool to see.

Funny you should post this right now. Over the weekend I watched Moscow on the Hudson w/Robin Williams. When the Soviet circus tours NYC, they do so in what looks like a GM 4905. Very cool to see one in original form so up close.

Hey - the IMCDB database didn't include our bus! Maybe this was too recent to show up yet, but year before last ours was in the pilot episode of HBO's Deuce.

PO leased it to them for a scene outside the Port Authority in NY. They needed buses still wearing the period-correct colors. Ours still has the factory paint as was used by Super Service Bus Co.

I wouldn't trust a movie company with my coach. Look what they did to Cliffs Eagle in the Clint Eastwood movie, The Gauntlet.😬

It's my understanding that the PO drove it for the scene. Being a 4-speed, not too many on the show staff could probably drive it.

Some in correct ones also in there.
The MCI 5C they said was in Air wolf was actually a MCI 5C Saudi Bus like ours. You can tell buy the double roof.
There other one they said was a MCI 5C was said to be in Buffalo 66, but the pictured showed some much newer Bus that wasn't even an MCI.

We mustn't forget the RTS in TRAINS, PLANES AND AUTOMOBILES with the rental car scene.
I think that was a GM Buffalo when they were on the bus in a later scene.
Or the old FORD chassis Skokie on various episodes of MASH

Bus Stop with Marilyn Monroe and several Andy Griffith episodes for ACF Brill IC-41.
It Happened One Night with Clark Gable. Cool older pre-greyhound bus.
Follow Me Boys with Fred MacMurray. Really old Ford? bus.

I pay attention to Scenicruiser appearances in movies and TV. Just caught "Breakfast at Tiffany's" last night, which includes a great Greyhound terminal scene and second livery 4501. I leased mine to "The Identical" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2326574/ (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2326574/)  I included in my contract that only I would drive the bus, no alterations to bus allowed (paint, etc.) It was a fun experience, and they paid really well.

If you're interested in Scenicruiser especially one appears multiple times (as a band bus) in the "Homerpalooza" episode of The Simpsons.

Lots and lots of buses and motorhomes have appeared in The Simpsons at different times (plus of course one of the characters is a bus driver), and they almost always make the effort to draw actual bus models and not just the generic cartoon type you might expect.

The motorhomes tend to be more invented creations though, some more than others...:

While looking through the IMCDb database..I noticed lots of movies use the same buses in various moves. Looking through you can find the exact bus used in multipal movies. FOund that pretty interesting.

Watching North by Northwest in the deserted road scene the one that Cary Grant gets off in a Scenic Cruiser I would say.

But what is the next one that comes?

When one is obsessed with something, one finds lots of useless trivia!

I do know that there is at least one Scenicruiser in the UK because years ago I saw it being advertised for sale by Pinewood studios - I've always wondered where it ended-up after that, but it's also just occurred to me that you could probably identify exactly which bus it was if you cross-referenced a list of all the movies made at Pinewood with that IMCDB database.

If anyone fancies giving it a go the list of Pinewood movies is available on Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pinewood_Studios_productions (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pinewood_Studios_productions)
