It wasn't the thrust bearings, at the bottom of the comments it says the coupler failed, and looking at the picture blown up you can see where on of the blower drive coupling a tooth broke off and fell into the gear train.

And it was five years ago, it should be resolved by now.

He's still saving money to do the repair.

Speaking of trust bearings, when we did the in frame on our 671 - the trust bearing was badly worn. I don't sit at red lights anymore with my foot down on the clutch pedal.  ;)

Dan, I thought this was about the thrust bearing on the crank shaft. Are you thinking about the throw out bearing for the clutch? Or maybe I need another cup of coffee...

When you push the clutch in, you are putting pressure on the crankshaft thrust bearing. Normal replacement item during overhaul. They come in various oversizes.

The heat generated with a automatic transmission takes a toll on thrust bearings too it is not just a vehicle with a clutch, some diesel engine the thrust bearing is part of the main bearing shell and some are 2 piece like the Detroit, follow the maintenance guide and replace the bearings at scheduled intervals and don't sweat it

Thanks, I get it now. I've always checked thrust bearing clearance and replaced as necessary at overhaul, but didn't know the wear came from the pressure from the clutch, or even an auto transmission. Learn something every day, thanks.
