I'll try to keep this as brief as possible. Because of the restrictive rules in California regarding RVs, we have left our awesome 4104 in favor of a 2016 Airstream. I posted a classified ad on BCM just a week ago, but since then we have decided to donate the bus instead. We hooked up with an amazing guy (Woody) from Colorado who has taken it upon himself to help victims of the Camp Fire secure housing. We are donating our bus to a Cal-Fire firefighter who lost her home near Chico and is having pulmonary complications as well.
Here's where the story gets a little complicated. I'm eleven weeks post-surgical repair of an ascending aortic dissection i.e open chest surgery, Dacron graft, aortic valve stabilization... Since most people have never heard of this, let me just say I'm very, very lucky to be here today. Since I was in excellent shape before this incident, I survived. However, even eleven weeks out, I have only about 20% of the endurance I had before.
Our bus is being stored at the Airstream dealer in Fairfield, CA. Woody has put together a scenario to deliver the bus on the weekend of December 8th. I haven't seen the bus in eight months, but I know it will take maybe a day's work to get it ready to roll; prime the fuel system, air up the tires, maybe charge the batteries, etc. My two sons are going to help me, but neither can drive the bus, and I'm not sure I can drive it the two hours from Fairfield to Chico after driving from Morgan Hill to Fairfield, getting the bus ready, etc.
So, I'm reaching out to this amazing group that I've spent the last seven years learning from to see if there's one or two that maybe can help get the old girl fried up and drive her up to Chico.
Gordie,if it wasn't 500 miles from me I would do it for you, some of the guys coming from the Northwest will help I bet, plus Dave5c lives in that area and he is very big guy with kind heart a guy that him and his wife do a lot of work for the homeless
I get the 500 miles! I'm sure someone will help out.
Gordie is it Automatic or shift? Live in west Roseville 8 minutes NE of Sacramento, when will you need it driven up. It is 2 hour trip to Chico from Fairfield.
Still trying to figure out what (Because of the restrictive rules in California regarding RVs) never heard or seen any?
FEMA is already up there and getting ready to disperse trailers in a week for all who need them. There are 60 local firefighter and law enforcement that have lost their homes to the fire also. And they have already caught three guys looting and two trying to sell trailers to people.
are you sure this Woody is a real support person because there are already some criminals cheating people out of things and be dishonest. So please be sure. If you need some help I can work with you or your sons but will not work with someone from another state who I am not familiar with.
You can PM, email me for a number if you want.
Also check with the Fire Departments they may have an off duty or even on duty Firefighter that would or could drive it up there. Most long term FF have a CDL and can drive anything.
Dave
Dave,
Thanks for the cautionary advice. Of the eight or so RV parks in the Bay Area, only one will allow RVs over ten years old - even with accompanying pictures and specs. Been turned away by all but Candlestick Park and they had to get manager approval.
As for Woody - https://abc7news.com/society/denver-man-donating-rv-to-camp-fire-victims-inspires-others-to-give/4743034/
As for FEMA, if they're as good at helping fire victims as they are at hurricanes, there will be people without a place to live a year from now.
I just talked to Woody again today and he has a driver lined up that can handle a four-speed non-synchro and a rancher who is going to put up a bunch of people on his ranch. Thanks to all who read and responded! I think we have a plan put together. I'll take pictures and post.
Ok good Gordie glad it worked out just wanted you to know what was going on. My back and legs just can't take a four speed any more but would have for you if needed. did it a lot many years ago.
Take care Dave Walker
