Thought I'd post a couple pics of buses in service in Asia. There are plenty of different kinds but some of these double deckers make me wonder. Is it me or are these taller than ones in America? Currently in Thailand and there are basically zero flyovers/overpasses so maybe taller buses are feasible.
This bay sure seems larger than ones I have seen. Standing a full size tire upright?
And lastly, Michelin man rules here.
Wow - makes me think of the Neoplan bus Sean and Louise had. Big!
I think that double-decker appears tall because it has more glass on its bodysides than is usual: the side windows extend down much lower than normal. Just for reasons of stability I can't imagine the Thai buses' CoG could be any higher than other double-deckers. Interesting that it's a Scania - they seem to be popular for DD buses around the world.
Is the photo of the luggage bay from a double-decker?

It is but was a different coach that was a double decker. Sunlong is another common bus company in Thailand. Even from the back, it sure looks really taller but suspect you must be correct that there is some international height standard. In fact, there are some "freeways" in Bangkok that have over/under passes so they must fit. LOL
Iv'e been over there a few times in recent years and ridden many forms of the public transport. Some of those night busses really have a futuristic carnival ride look about them when they pull up to the bus terminal. I rode one once that had flashing lights and techno music blaring when we boarded. The amount of glass in them is pretty wild. Craig
Don on the bays Sean's Neoplane had bays big enough to drive their two scooter into actually push them into and the bikes were standing up. So about the same.
This is a Neoplan at one of the rallies.

Yeah, if you look closely at the image with the tire standing up, you will see a new bike in wrap to the left of that tire. First time I have seen such tall bays, makes mine look only pancakes need apply for entry. lol
