Title: On selling a bus
Post by: Mike in GA on October 16, 2018, 07:47:10 AM
Trying to help a new widow sell her husband's nice MC-8 conversion. What is the board's opinion about online ads vs a consignment lot?
Are there any of each to avoid? All advice would be appreciated

Not many consignment lots know tootle about a bus...

Advertise it here on BCM, over at BNO, on Facebook group "Bus Conversions for sale", on your local craigslist/kijiji sales site.

Put it where busnuts are looking. Avoid where we don't...

Happy coaching!

We had our old bus on Craig's List briefly. Very briefly, due to the number of weirdos calling and no valid calls at all. FWIW.

I would NOT put it on a consignment lot unless you know the guys personally and have it set up to only give demo drives with you along. I've seen too many idiots not know a thing about a regular MH taking test drives for the thrill of it and can only imagine if you got just one like that wanting to test drive a bus.... :'( Especially if the dealer knows jack-all about buses too.  :o

When we were looking and I know people that are looking, I always suggest they check out the bay place first just to get an idea what coaches are going for at auction and general asking prices. If that scares them, I suggest they sign up here and buy an ad where the serious busnuts hang out.

Bus Conversion Magazine will advertise your bus for sale on our Classified Ads page as well in our magazine for only $99/year.  We also list it for you on Bus Conversions For Sale.  Send me an email if you are interested at Gary@BusConversions.com.  As others have mentioned, advertising a bus outside of bus circles will get you a lot of people who do not understand what buses are all about and will almost always low-ball you on price.

You can check out our Classified section here: https://www.busconversionmagazine.com/bcmclassifieds/

Put it on Ebay with # to call. May not sell but a lot of people see it and may call after auction ends,

Facebook seems to draw a lot of attention lately and some do sell.
In fact more sell than I  expected.

Have you talked to Tom at www.busesforsale.com? There is a link on his website for selling a bus. We bought our current 4108 from him - pleasant experience all around and he has good references.

Not sure if he is taking consignment buses, but it's worth a call. They have a nice lot in southern New Jersey not too far from Philadelphia.
