Good morning everyone,
As I have been working towards cleaning up my front junction box by removing unnecessary circuits and replacing the old factory fuses with Car type fuses, I have thought about reorganizing the relays that are left. In the front I will have 4 ice cube relays that remain, some silver box that im trying to identify (in picture attached) and another relay for the clearance lights (from the old 4 pole relay). As I was looking for some DIN rail mounted ice cube relay bases, I came across a smaller type of relay as well (as pictured).
My first question is, has anyone changed out any of the original relays for this type of relay before? its not saving a ton of space so its not a deal breaker if no one has. It would allow me to possibly relocate them somewhere else in the junction box for a more clean look and ease of access for issues.
My second question is, I assume that these are not continuous use relays such as the ones in the 3rd picture(ones that come on the bus). I would like to use one for the I.D. Clearance lamps which are running anytime that the lights are on, I call them park lights. But I'm not sure they are rated for continuous duty. Does anyone believe that this would be an issue? I cant find anything online about the negatives of doing so. The main reason for doing this would be to make changing one out easy as its just a pull it off and plug a new one in its place versus dealing with all of the connectors and then dealing with the mounting bolts
Those relays in third picture are designed to work years with no issues. Not so sure about the ones in the second picture. The third ones are easy to check if they are operating correctly with a jumper and test light in a few seconds. The others will be a pita to access terminals, but I guess you can yank one and plug in another. Diyw
