Has been said (unconfirmed) the tractor lost a steer and crossed the median...
The bus was an MCI D4505, not a Prevost

Has strange looking tail lights for a MCI D ,regardless Vanhool,MCI or Prevost that bus took a terrible hit and stayed upright it could have been a lot worse
Head on with something as big as you are not much chance. Prayers for all involved.
I thought it was a Prevost initially too Clifford, but after looking to see what Greyhound has in their fleet and looking at photos of the MCI it became clear that is what it was. Either way, no bus on the road is going to take a direct hit like that and stay in one piece.
On the subject.

Deadly New Mexico bus crash prompts negligence claims
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) ? A California-based trucking company and one of its drivers were accused of negligence Friday in a pair of lawsuits as investigators sorted through the wreckage from a deadly bus crash on a New Mexico highway. Eight people were killed and 25 injured, including three young children.
The Greyhound bus carrying nearly 50 people was headed west along Interstate 40 on Thursday when a semitrailer going in the opposite direction lost the tread on its left front tire and veered across a median and smashed into the bus, police said.
The front of the bus was mangled, the cab of the semi was flipped and the trailer was on its side as debris was scattered across the highway. Passing motorists stopped to help passengers climb out of the wreckage before authorities arrived.
Theyve put up cable barriers in Okla..cut crossover crashes by like 80%....not always effective with big rigs but often...

They were working on those in Texas, New Mexico, and AZ in spots
The Canadian Humbolt accident investigation is over, resulted in multiple criminal charges against the truck driver so no more information will be released until the trial. Driver is out on bail. The last appearance was adjourned, the next is scheduled for Oct 2.
Now 8 confirmed dead. Sad so Sad

Sure, those are the first words out of an ambulance chasing lawyers mouth....there will be more.
The investigation is far from over.

The dead haven't even been buried yet, but the lawsuits are already filed. I am not saying that lawsuits aren't in order here, but filing them the day after before investigations are even done seems a bit hasty.
My impression is that this country is becoming awash with lawyers and the competition for cases is getting more intense every day. Witness all the ads for personal injury by so many law firm spokesmen and women.
