Title: MCI clutch compatibility

Can someone confirm that the clutch for a 1980 MC-5C and a 1981 MC-9 are the same? Both are 8V-71N and 8844A transmission. My manual calls out a 15" dry two plate clutch manufactured by Long. I'm sending a floater plate to Alaska to bail out a fellow bus nut, and I would hate to to send the thing on a cross-continent trip just for it's education... From the picture I saw it looks the same.

If it is a Long clutch they are "15" inch ,5's,7,8 and 9's were all the same

I'd been wondering about my clutch--just what was in it..
If its a Long then its a push type clutch rather than the spicer style pull type?
I think thats all they made in '81.
They do now have a pull type to compete with the Spicers.
And Ive heard on here of the wet clutches, which are totally foreign to me. Did MCI also use these?

My clutch, 4 speed spicer 1980 MCI, should per Clifford be the same as yours.  Made by Long, 15" nominal disc diameter, two discs, a 1" thick floater iron plate between the discs, a spring loaded cover with another thick plate, fingers that the throwout bearing pushes on, and around 15 or 20 coil springs that you need to adjust the height of, and the height of each of the fingers when setting the clutch up on the flywheel.

Man Bevans--that broight back some memories..1st real job i ever had was rebuilding clutches and brakes at Oklahoma Clutch Supply- okc...I remember that beast...
Ive barely been underneath my bus..curious as to both the clutch and transmission linkage that runs the length of the bus and amazingly to me, still works so well...
A trucker friend/customer recently built a pit for his trucks..he doesnt know it yet, but Im gonna have to borrow that pit one of these days soon...sorry if i took this off topic

The shifter linkage and clutch linkage are solid rods that run just under the passenger floor of the bus, you access them above the transmission from the first floor hatch at the back of the bus.  Two rods with 1/2" rod ends for the shifter, and one pull rod for the clutch.  Very simple and never gets out of adjustment.  There is an adjuster mechanism for the clutch throw out bearing clearance on the driver's side of the gear box, along with the air cylinder for the air assist.  There is a hand wheel to adjust, you lift it to engage the adjuster, turn it clockwise till there is zero free play, and then back it off one full turn of the hand wheel for correct free play.
