Hello Everyone,
I was thinking about an idea of something that we can all contribute to especially those with many years of experience. How about we create a new main topic page (similar to the bus topics and spare tire sections) where we list go to things such as "what oil should I use in my Detroit 6V92TA" then we can all post with I use this oil, its been great, or Detroit recommends this and it does great. We could start a post for each. oil type for a 6v92 TA, oil type for a 8v92, Best trans oil for a HT470, etc. So that when people need to change their oil and its their first time, they can just go to this section, lets call it "Basic Maintenance items" they can search for their engine type and read through peoples experience.
Let me know what you guys think
Great idea.
No problems,i an in for thats. If i can help.
There already exists a technical section. Click on the arrow/box where Bus Topics is and you'll find it
They should open it up to at least 1 reply read only kinda of sucks,Gary is the 1st I seen use it in years
Yeah and there isn't much information that I found useful in that section. So that would make me have to ask, for those with a Detroit 6v92TA, what kind of oil has been best to use? Mines due for an oil change and I've was told by one place to use Chevron-100 40W by their engineering team
You make a point since I don't belong to the Delo 100 fan club :P

But you do belong to the Mobil 1240 club. ;D The trouble with posting questions about specific things like oil for a specific engine (which could be regarded as too limited, a low ash 40 weight is best for all two cycles, not just the 6V92) is that there will be opinions about what is appropriate or best that will vary. The collective wisdom of many people that tend to agree about a certain question is what has the most value, and/or whatever Cliff says. The common subjects of what tires, batteries, oils, etc. come up often, and when the consensus comes out the same time after time, then you have something of value. Perhaps a poll type approach would work with a ranking of the most prevalent answers. Someone would probably have to take the responsibility of editing the results and posting them in condensed form.
The difficulties with search, have a lot to do with the topic title, lvmci...
Yes, unlock the Technical section. There is no single correct answer so let the flack flow!
The biggest problem is when it starts you get so many different answers and then someone will start asking questions about their other things and that subject just went down the drain...WA... WA.... WAAAAAAA :)

Is that called drifting Dave :o, only way I can make search work is by the author with time I can find most things if I can remember the authors name
Nope that's :o what you call when you make a car go sideways in the middle of I-80 and stop traffic for 1 hour and go to jail like the 27 kids did last night in Sacramento, LOL
Oh just did that too here...different kind of drifting.....
So opinions on the oil?

Right now it's on sale for $13.99 per gallon at advance Auto parts. Pretty good price compared to regularly $19.99 per gallon. I'll order tonight and pickup in store tomorrow sometime when I'm up that way
Not a bad price I pickup 4-5 gal pails of Delvac 1240 today cost me $107.50 ea with tax.I could have bought it from Summit for $89.99 a pail but with shipping it was about the same price
Rotella T1 is what I'm using in my 6v92TA. I've found great prices ($14 or less) are common at tractor supply type stores.
I pay the price and stick with Delvac 1240 and have for many years but will use other brands
What kinda lube in squirrel cage gear box on an MCIIIIII? uuuhhhmmmm and if so why?
Dad used Delvac 1140 in the 4104 and Chevy Adventureliner with the 3-53 till Mobil dropped it. He then switched to 1240. I use XD3-40 till the drum is empty. For a while after the merger you couldn't get 1240, only XD3.
