Title: Oil Leak
Post by: Fred Mc on August 13, 2018, 11:00:37 AM
On my GM PD4106 I had the injectors replaced at the start of the year. Since that time I have noticed a significant oil leak from the valve cover on the upper cylinder head.(engine is slanted and transverse) I have had the bus out for an extended run twice. When the valve  covers were re-installed new gaskets were used. Are these prone to leakage or was it just a sloppy job?

Thanks

Fred

Did they do an oil change at the same time?

They are stamped steel

I did the oil change myself and then had a shop do the injectors and re-install the valve covers.

Stamped steel valve covers have a lip where the gasket rides,  the mechanic has to wiggle the valve cover to make sure it is seated before the hold down bolts/handles are tightened.

Thanks, I will check that.  I did notice that he installed the valve coverl from the back of the engine instead of through the hatch in the back of the bus so maybe he did't get it quiet right.

If it wasn't  leaking before, he bungled it. If it was leaking before, maybe cover has issues.
