I started pulling apart my drive axle to replace the bearings, seals, brakes, etc for my MCI-9, and I'm getting some conflicting cross reference numbers. I'd hate to dig into this and not have the right stuff. Does anyone have any Timken, Bowers, SKF, National cross referenced from MCI numbers? This will be helpful any of us needing to order parts in the future. Just a note, I'm trying to do this on the cheap, and order mostly old stock on ebay. This is what I have so far, please feel free to add to this:

I have the outer bearing #s at work..a guy from MCI called us back with some good info...will post here in the morning..
The 742 and 749a are good timken #s, although probably not going to find on anyone's shelf unless its a bus place..
Im going to be ordering some from timken for myself...takes about a week for a stock order(no freight)..

While you got it all apart would it be cost and effort effective to change the case to another ratio? Or would it even be possible to find an air powered driver controlled locking differential? I have no idea how rare your Bus Conversion rear axle assembly is nor what may or may not fit.
Up here (Calgary, AB) I go to the trucks parts stores (Fleet Brake, Fort Gary Industries, and others) and plunk the old part on their counter, and they are very good at finding stuff. Sometimes on the shelf, if not they find it and order it in. Never been skunked... And their prices are reasonable, no more than anything on the internet, often times cheaper.
Also worth a call to MCI. You'd be surprised how sometimes their prices are reasonable too. Or Mohawk Industries.
You do have to remove the old part first, to make it easier to match for a new part.

Also every city has one or two bearing stores. You take your old bearing there, they measure it, and often come back to the counter in a couple of minutes with a match.

Those are the same bearing numbers the 4905 use. My book list the industry number along with the GM part number. If I would have known earlier, I'd have shared the numbers.
