Title: V730 Stone Bennett issue
Post by: tekebird on July 05, 2018, 07:24:38 AM
Couple year old install Stone Bennett elec over air on v730.

Intermittently not shifting when switch toggled (folks bus).  I cannot duplicate the issue

Can manually move the lever.

Ideas?

Solenoids?  Or the air unit?

I had the same problem;

First was caused by a loose ground wire at the electric solenoid on top of the air valve. The wires are tiny and up in a tight spot, had to use a very small right angle screwdriver. After doing this three times I removed the wire and reinstalled with a serrated washer, no problems since. Make sure the wires don't hang down, they are very close to the road.

Second was a poor ground at the panel switch. Found a better ground, problem solved.

Third was a seized shifter that could only be moved by hitting the exposed rear shaft. Took the shifter/valve completely off, problem was a corroded shaft. Cleaned and lightly lubed the shaft - end of problem. Be careful when reattaching the shifter arm to the trans arm, if you don't get it just right the two arms will bind. Shift it manually a few times to make sure things are clear. It is easy to shift manually once the  shaft is cleaned up and lubed.

The shifter is in a really bad spot, it gets all the crud from the road plus all the rain, snot and whatever thrown at it so it is no surprise that it corrodes. However, since yours is so new this may not be the problem. Mine took many years to get so bad.

Hope this helps. Let me know what you find:)
