Thank you, Phil
Looks really nice.
One issue I see is with some of the special characters not displaying properly - look at the first couple of sticky posts under 'Bus Topics' and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Otherwise, from first look it's much easier to read with the higher contrast.
Thanks for the hard work getting it done.
Agree about the special characters. My first impression was, wow that is hard to read. Red and grey just don't do it for me. I find that many forums are going to grey lettering and I find it just hard to read, not enough contrast.
I agree Dick. The gray isn't enough contrast. I found it not as user friendly as the old one to get to read new stuff.

Sorry to come off with complaints. I value this Forum highly and appreciate all the work (& time, & expense) that Gary, Phil and other put into it. Thank you so much.
What in the hell are some people going to do without the ignore feature way to Phil and Gary lol we all have a clean slate now 8)
Got it !! Will work on the color scheme - easy to read. :D Thanks all! And also special character issue (present company excepted.). 8)

Oh yeah, special characters are a key ingredient to this hobby!
But how do you fix 'em?
Lots of us been trying for as long as the internet has been letting us, with little success.

John
Oh god ,after 20 years I FINALLY figured out how to use ignore and now its gone. :) :)
On the issue of readability... Can you bump up the font size? Or allow us to set the font size?
I know I can increase the "zoom" resolution size in the browser, and I have. But it'd be nice not to have to do that with each visit.
Oh good... before anyone can ignore me :o I'm just going to pop in and say "beautiful job!" to the development team!! Looks great... and never mind the size of the fonts, I'll just bring my monitor closer to my face! LOL!!
Best regards,

Color? ahhh. My browser is at 120%, maybe a tad bigger font and no grey. Other wise good job on the switch over, thanks for the efforts as always. I think all the other old farts said everything I was thinnin'. :o :P :P
The clock is way off or some are posting from the other side of the world and it is not my clock :o
Clifford and others go into your profile and hit modify profile then Look/layout settings and you can adjust the time by hiiting auto detect.
Betcha quite a few are scratching their heads trying to recall the user name/passwords, I know cause I was one of em' LOL! :D
Nice job Phil and all who helped, I don't know why I can't see it well...
The dark fonts on the headers are easy to see
Phil -
As Buswarrior has already pointed out to you, the gray shaded font color is extremely hard to read for us older folk.
Also, when somebody posts a link using a URL, it, too, shows up in the gray, making it hard to read.
I, personally, liked the link fonts in blue that the previous board used, especially when somebody wrote a post that included several links within the text
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
What are the so called forbidden colors together I can remember red/green but what are the other 2 ? I think they are here
Clock fixed. Work continues, thanks all for your patience,
Kind regards, Phil

Can I put all the pictures I wanted to attach for the last decade in one reply?
Been working with Phil on migrating/upgrading the forum, this is our first shot at running it live on new server. There are a couple of glitches we're seeing that have been mentioned in this topic:
- Special characters are borked. Don't think there's anything can be done about that. Database has been upgraded and is using utf-8 collation, so special characters should display correctly. I found a similar problem in forum rules text, and it was due to mixing html and bbc tags with various character codes. The forum is quite old, and some of this stuff is many years obsolete and doesn't display correctly in current browsers. Only solution is to manually edit the characters. Admins would have to fix them as they're reported.
- Some avatars are not loading. There is a known issue involving attachment mime types and a security feature that was added in SMF 2.0.4, it can usually be fixed by running a database query, which I've done, but still see some dud avatars. If you reupload the avatar, it should work. If it doesn't, or you no longer have the original image file, post here and I may be able to recover it.
Font sizes, colors, and other formatting are easily adjusted, I've been tinkering with them to brighten things up. How you see things depends on which browser and browser settings you're using, and which type of computer or mobile device it's displayed on. CSS was supposed to fix the longtime problem of different rendering in different engines, but it didn't, and mobiles have made everything worse for developers. I work in IE11 and proof in FF60 on a 23" monitor set to reduced resolution (makes things larger) and running with zoomed text. I doubt there are many people here older than I, or who see as badly. It would be helpful if you can post screenshots of things you don't like or have difficulty seeing, and what you're viewing them on.
Your feedback and patience is appreciated.

There are settings that specify max attachment size per post (currently 1024kb), max size per attachment (1024kb), and max number of attachments per post (4). They can be changed at discretion of management. Bear in mind that if attach size and number are set very large or for no limit, and you post a lot of large attachments in your posts, it can cause long, slow page loads for members with slow devices or connections.
The BCM has not worked in Tapatalk since yesterday, at least not for me. I can access all the other forums and blogs, so I'm wondering if there is a problem with the interface after the update and migration.
After the migration Tapatalk required me to log into the forum again, and after that it gives me 'network error' messages instead of letting me in.

Thanks, Iggle - that's helpful (and as a longtime Chrome user, I shoudda known). I had manually set my text zoom to 125 -- that kinds jumbles and cranks stuff together but it helps with reading a good deal. It doesn't do anything about grey letters on a grey background and red letters on a red background but it helps.
A lot of this I'll get used to, some of it will remain difficult. But that's OK, we have the forum.

Running on a Windows 7 laptop, I have to log in again every time I "refresh" my messages. It's not a big deal, I can just scroll up, hit the "Login" button (since I reentered the password manually the first time after the upgrade) and I know when I need to do it because the reply buttons aren't there. Not a big deal, but I never had to do this before and it's a low-grade PITA.
Thanks to everyone working on this -- when all has been done, it will be better.

I just tried to access the BCM forum through Tapatalk using my desktop browser and their web portal, and when I try that the error that's returned is "Server Not Found".
My guess that when the site was migrated to the new server things did not automatically resolve themselves with Tapatalk. It would be great if that could be reset, since using Tapatalk to access the site when I'm out and about is much better than trying to use a browser on a phone. Probably just needs to have the server address updated on the Tapatalk site.
Thanks!

Yep, the light gray text is too light, and I think that would be true whether you are young or old. Not having the ignore function is an improvement, I think it was too harsh and unfriendly to tell people their opinion was not wanted. If there are situations where abusive language and personal attacks are used, the moderators can deal with it appropriately.

Reverting back to Core is not a really good idea, unless Phil decides to remain with it. It's a legacy theme from 1.1 branch, and isn't compatible with a lot of 2.0 mods. There are dozens (maybe hundreds?) of themes available for 2.0, I suggested Inferno because the color scheme is similar to BCM main site. You can also switch to Curve, which is 2.0 default theme. Might be a good idea to decide now which theme to use, as some customizations (i.e., the ads) have been done in Inferno, and are time consuming to redo in other themes.

Not sure yet Krash. Sometimes it takes a while. I think it is acting the same way when we read the Current issue on the Members drop-down button. It may take a day or two to know for sure. Thanks and we will let you know if it is the fix we need.
Are you checking off the stay logged in box when logging in? if not you gotto do the same routine every time.
Are you using header login or login window? Shouldn't have to check 'Always stay logged in' every time. I can modify the code so all logins are forever, but don't think it will solve this problem.
I initially used the window checked the box and all is good.

Click the checkbox to "Always Stay Logged In". And enter your username & password as usual.

I didn't do this but now I'm staying logged on. I also was able to switch to the "blue theme" -- no more red/on/red and grey/on/grey type face. I'm happy! Thanks for all your work. Now I can read it AND we can post photos. (Also, things seem to be loading quicker - any changes made so this will happen? if so- big win!)
Changed to core theme, much better. I personally would like something like the older windows themes with light grey background with black lettering.

Would be interested to know which device/os/browser you're viewing it on. Phil is leaning toward using default Curve theme, I'll set that up and switch everybody over tonight.

Gary, Phil & Krash -
I'm looking at the new forum using the most recent FireFox on a PC. I'm not sure how to do a screen capture, but here's what I'm seeing across the top of the reply screen right under the date and time:
BCM Community >> Bus Discussion >> Bus Topics (click here for quick start!) >> Post Reply ( Re: Migration complete. Please let us know if issues! Thank you. )
This is the same thing I see on the main discussion page when it's a topic I've already clicked on, or when somebody posts a URL link in one of the threads. The color is a light grey, but it's almost invisible on the grey background. I used white to emphasize the difficulty - which has also been noted by several other forum members, from myself to Buswarrior to Clifford and others.
The old board used a color combination that |@N still uses over on the BNO BBS, which, of course, is what we're all used to. I have no objection to changing the colors on BCM to differentiate between the two, but the issue of not being able to see URL links and titles of previously read threads needs to be fixed.

My primary browser is IE11, but I have it configured to clear history when it closes. I use macros to log in to my regular sites. Upper RH corner of the page is a search box that searches the forum.
I was looking to search the thread.
Like if someone was asking about what coach they should get, and I wanted to search the 7 pages of posts(without opening all 7) to see if someone had mentioned "HC" or "Motorhome title"
This would be easy if the thread could display as one page, as you could just use find in your browser tools.

I can increase it, but it may cause formatting problems if it's too large, especially on mobile. I have IE11 set for large text, FF60 at 120% zoom, on 23" monitor, so I see everything differently than most of you. I'll bump the post text up a bit, if anyone sees a problem post a description or screenshot and which browser you're using.

Is there a way to view the topic as 1 page?
Profile -> Look and Layout -> Messages to display per page Default setting is 15, max is 50. It will affect all topics.
Quote
And is there a way to search only a topic for a keyword (someones thread?)
Quick search (upper left) will search the topic you're in. Advanced search is accessed from menu button.
Yesterday I changed my "Look and Layout" to the old blue one. I figured I'd change to the "new" one but, I no longer have any option to change it.
Everyone should be seeing Curve theme -

I've removed the option to change themes for now, it's less confusing while we're getting things squared away.
Krash, thanks color and font are great. Jack
P.S. I had to change my password in order to log in--but it was easy enough. Just thought you'd want to know.
I can log in but no matter what I do it won't hold it if I close it. I don't log out it logs me out when I leave and doesn't remember me when I come back until I re login. No big. I tried dumping the bookmark and doing a new one but no difference. Checked forever swung a dead chicken over my head while standing on one leg but still NADA. ;D
Hi Dave,
Did you try to tell the forum to remember your logon - I had a screenshot on page #5 (reply 60) on this thread?
I can repost the image if you cannot locate it.
Please let us know. Thank you, Phil

Did you try clearing the cache on your browser? I had a few problems logging in and that solved it for me.
I think everyone should clear their browser, and set a new bookmark at the current url (https://www.busconversionmagazine.com/forum/). Redirect from old server address may be borking cookies.
I did that and now all is good now ! I am logged in forever

IDK if anyone has mentioned this or not, but when I've opened a thread to read the new posts I can't tell which ones are new and which ones have been read other than re-reading to see what I remember. Other forums have a fairly prominent flag to show the new posts in the thread. Is there one there but I'm just missing it somehow?
Jim
Mine has a flag that says new posts.
All topics with new posts are flagged with this - (https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thekrashsite.com%2Fpics%2Fnew.gif&hash=995e2fa10eec68124f414adebae1d9695da7ba5b) New messages within threads are not marked. Try using 'Show unread posts since last visit.' and 'Show new replies to your posts' under your username, upper left.

you have to be signed in to see the new posts flag.
Had this happen to me when they were resetting defaults and had not checked the stay signed in box.
But the posts themselves are not marked, I think that was the question. The board names are flagged, as are the topics within the board, but new posts within topics are not.
Working for me just as it always was. Threads/topics are flagged if they contain new posts. New posts are not flagged, but I don't remember them every being flagged (just the thread itself).
Yeah, that's what I'm saying, new posts in the individual thread. Migrating to a new system you'd think it would have this. Maybe it just isn't turned on? Worth checking, it is way more convenient if it is there.
On one forum they even have a button inside the thread that says, "Show unread posts" and when you click that it takes you down to the new posts that you haven't seen yet.
I realize it is a small thing. but for those who only stop by once a week or so it would make getting caught up a whole lot easier.
Jim
You get the new posts by clicking on the "NEW" icon. If you click on the thread subject it takes you back to the original post.
At least that works for me.

I like the new logon arrangement at the top, its handy and large.
This afternoon im finding the ? new ? button gets me to the last page, then I can scroll down to wherever. It could be on the right or bigger.
So Im hittin and bumpn the buttons for another option to get directly to last post. I personally would rather scroll up to verify my last post read. These last thoughts are minor if I could get to the last post in short order.
You ask so thanks for listening
Have a great day

Advertising is stomping over the top of the page, the "show posts since" buttons are overlayed by ads.
This is on a Blackberry Q10, just on the browser.
Happy coaching!

I'm seeing the same glitch with the ads on my phone. Firefox browser.
I remember there was some talk of having an automatic image resizer that would shrink photos from your phone to be under a MB like the limit. Is that still an option?
The forum looks great! I do like the NEW flags.
Looks like Phil modified the ad setup. I'll check it soon as I get a chance. On pc I see two ads above the header (where there were three previously), and one centered in the header.
Here's a screenshot if it helps.
These ads are wider, they're wrapping. Changed spacing, any different?
Pretty sure that won't work. If someone can confirm, I'll do Plan B tonight.
No change for me.
Three ads for me.
Three ads here also, seems wider than early morning today. Although no covering of any search box area.
Running iPhone today and whatever it uses.

OK now finally held my ID and password. Had to go into FF settings and delete my BCM Id and password in Security settings. > delete the bookmark > Put BCM bus into browser> find it in list and click it> put in ID and Password> after it got me in I Re-Bookmarked it. Closed the page> opened again with bookmark and wa la it worked again. Yay 8) ;D
Nope never mind. went back in again and it was gone again had to put in ID and password. It is what it is. Done :)
Mine doesn't show any ads but that because I have an ad blocker and it works.....
I don't mind the ads. Sometimes something will come up that I'm interested in. Now if incontinence or hemmoroid ads start popping up, I may go with an ad blocker. Most times I don't even notice them.
I can't log in via tapatalk. It says login failed.
We love our ads! Advertisers help our leader Gary, pay for this site!! I've used a few and they've been pretty good. Tell 'em Bus Conversion Magazine sent you! OK, turning off my megaphone. ;D ;D ;D
Thanks all for the feedback, we are really looking good here.
Kind Regards, Phil
OK. I don't like how the poster's name and picture are so small. I can't make them out on my dumbphone.
Thanks
Geoff
There are three ads, wider than original ads, that's why they're wrapping. On pc they're three across, but on mobile they're two over one, and third one is wrapping over header content. I'll make the ad space bigger, so they'll all be above board header either way.
I'm surprised ads are being blocked, they're being served directly by forum code, so blocker should see them as legit content. Used to use adblock plus, but it got to be a bloated pos, so switched to IE tracking protection, which is just as effective without the overhead. Pretty much all ads contain trackers, so they're all blocked. I do see the ads on this forum.
Tapatalk has not been reinstalled. I'll take this up with Phil when we get around to it, but it has caused serious security problems on SMF installs, and I'll advise against it. Would be helpful if I knew which functionality you're missing, there may be alternates.

What functionality is missing? That's an easy answer - all of it that makes use on a small screen practical and possible on an ongoing basis.
1. Tapatalk has a layout designed for the small screen. Tapping on links/content is easy. Viewing content on the forum through a smartphone browser is annoying at best, tortuous at worst. When viewing the forum through a smartphone browser it's nearly impossible to accurately tap on text links, requiring me to zoom in the screen each time I want to tap into a thread or post. Then I have to zoom out so that the content fits on the screen. Just not practical or enjoyable.
2. Tapatalk makes adding photos nearly instant since it will take a photo directly from the camera and automatically resize them. Through the browser interface I've got to save the photo to the storage area, find the photo through the reply screen using buttons too small to tap without zooming in, and then the reply gets zapped because the photo is too large. Then I remember that without Tapatalk there is no way to upload a photo from my smartphone and I have to wait till I get home and can find time to resize the photo to something that the forum will accept, since my phone doesn't take photos through the normal camera app that will upload (even with the new upload size limits). This makes it impossible to easily upload photos directly from where I work on the bus, a big negative when I'm trying to post something in the middle of a project.
3. Tapatalk is just plain easier to use and more smartphone friendly. I can view all the different forums I read regularly through a single app with a single interface.
PLEASE bring back Tapatalk functionality!

Precisely - even though I have lots more screen real estate than you do, I would rather use an app designed specifically for access forums than trying to surf on a mobile browser. Tapatalk is the app that I had been using to access the BCM forum until the update.
Here's a screen shot of what the Bus Grease Monkey site looks like when I view it through Tapatalk. It's not at all like trying to surf on a tiny screen, rather it's easy to use and a very handy way to access BCM without having to wait till I get home - especially for asking questions or posting photos while on the road.

Not sure that's the best solution. Buy another device, pay for another data plan, and use it just to access the BCM forum? My smartphone does all that easily and is already bought and paid for. It worked on the BCM forum through Tapatalk until the update. Seems like I'm not the only one using the app based on comments.
Got to agree with you Richard. I have TAPATALK to for forums and easy to read when I am waiting for wife at Doctors appointments. And can get it anywhere there is phone service or internet. Pictures are easy to take and then post right to the board. And its free to use the APP. ;D, we never use a browser on the smart phone just to painful and aggravating. Really nice when someone asks about the Bus this or that and you can just go out with Smart phone take the picture of what they want to know and post it imediately to them or to a site forum or text with TAPATALK, no resizing it does that for you.
Dave5Cs
I thought initially the main go to for tapatalk was the photo upload and auto resize ability. Im always learning something new here
I did understand a bit that the phones generally ran in a different and smaller/compact computer code. This was a step to change in desktop code so to speak so more or better multi access could happen.
Floyd
Floyd - You're correct that photo handling is a primary benefit of using an app like Tapatalk instead of accessing the forum through a browser. There are others besides the sheer convenience as well, like the much smaller data footprint used by an app vs a browser. When in an area with only 3G service, trying to use the forum through a browser can be painful, but through the app it's tolerable.
Hi Phil, tried to post 4 pictures in Chessie's mister post, wouldn't take even 1, lvmci...
I've really appreciated (and have been "struggling" without) the Tapatalk compatibility. Everything Richard said was spot on. It's about easily accessing the forum from a mobile device. It makes participation in this forum much easier for me. The website is designed for desktop use and just doesn't function as well on mobile.
Here's a few advantages of accessing through Tapatalk that are a big deal to my experience with this forum.
-Youtube links are automatically embedded instead of clicking and opening another page.
-Typing responses is much less glitchy.
-When a thread is tapped on, it automatically loads at the responses I've yet to read.
-The font is scaled so the user doesn't have to constantly zoom in and out.
-Notifications of messages and updated posts.
Thanks for all the work on the forum. I'm really glad this place exists. I've learned a lot from the people on here!
Ok, I'll make some inquiries in SMF support and see if there are some remedies for Tapatalk security issues. I believe some of it can be addressed by properly configuring the app, which it often isn't. Some of the features mentioned can be accomplished with forum mods. I have one running on one of my forums that auto-resizes attachments, so members don't have to, and there are several mods that embed youtube vids in posts. The responsive curve mod I installed a day or two ago should have addressed some of the complaints about browsing on phones, but apparently no one's noticed any major difference. Don't use a phone, so there's no way for me to check these things.

Here's what the forum looks like using Chrome on my Android smartphone (Galaxy Note 8). The individual posts are not so hard to open, but the text size on the different threads (and everything else) is still really tiny and nearly impossible to tap with accuracy. Nothing as simple or clean as Tapatalk. Also, still requires a browser and the accompanying higher data use.
While I appreciate the efforts to get the functionality of Tapatalk through the browser, it really seems like lots of extra work just to duplicate what's already available. Hopefully there are ways to deal with the security issues - I did a quick search and it looks like they've updated their software a recently in response to some security issues so maybe they've addressed the problems.
Its been a week since i looked at the laptop and running chrome, although this iPhone here i believe is safari an looks the same. I really havent seen a loading issue at different establishments, if they have wifi i cannot see a difference.
I can totally understand and see how tapatalk with its page looks as earlier posted could load faster and various graphics not loaded could be helpfull on data usage. This can be very important if running on cellular most of the time.
I dont understand it, in code. But its not the first time i have heard trusted pros say there are security issues with it and or a nightmare for the code writers trying to multitask it in desktop type code. Maybe i will ask my niece someday she's a code writer.
I pay for photo storage and still i dont have a great method to transfer my phone pics to there, resize and or fix for thumbnail and then upload to the forums.
But the storage is the priority and the work is not, so Im happy admiring others pics.

Yes, times are rough. Hopefully I can buy a new pair of jeans soon. ;D ;D ;D
Just want to recap some changes we've made to address comments and complaints.
- Ad header: It's been reformatted (several times) to display more neatly and consistently.
- Mobiles: Got the Responsive Curve mod working correctly, and fixed ad header so it should no longer wrap ads over forum header.
- Image uploads: Installed mod that automatically resizes uploaded images to size specified in attachment settings (currently set at 750px max width or height). Max attachment size was set at 1.024mb, I've increased it to 5mb, attachments are saved after resizing so resulting file size is small. You should be able to upload images directly from phone without having to resize them.
- Theme settings: Changed a few things that affect how forum works, should be a bit easier to look at and use. You can change some of these features for yourself in Profile -> Look and Layout.
Any feedback is welcome (just don't throw rocks). Screenshots and browser info helps.

I don't know if anybody else has noticed, but there seems to be a glitch in the program since the top header changed back to a red color (the board is still blue). Several times when I have clicked to go to another page in a message, when the screen changes all I see is the red header and an empty blue box. If I go back, it will now show that the message has been viewed. I have not made any changes to my profile or format during all of the changes, and it does not happen on every thread, just every so often. ???
Yup, i've had that happen, darker blue box, frozen, go back, post is read.
A few times, but with enough regularity that there's a bug someplace?

I've experienced that quite a bit on Safari on Mac in the past, not so much the past day or two. Not checked much on other browsers. It seems like a timeout issue, just a hunch. Did not diagnose at all but it is an odd behavior, rarely seen. It happens on going back page for me.
I've been seeing a blank blue page occasionally as well - more so on mobile but on Firefox for Windows as well. If I refresh the page it clears up.

Hmm, your eyes must be even worse than mine, that's how it's supposed to look. I'll try increasing contrast a bit between the two background colors.
Ok, you should see a post separator now. Any better?
Hi Krash, between posts it's white if you zoom all the way in, but normally they run into eachother...
That's odd, if you look at it on pc there's now a wider white space with a thin line -
(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thekrashsite.com%2Fpics%2Fbcm_ss06.jpg&hash=0c8dfad28d5546649f1c55488fe821abcb4c95a3)
Responsive mod must remove it. Will take a look on my kindle when I sit down to read tonight. If I can't add the separator, I'll revert to plan A and change bg color.
I don't think it's the background, that's pleasant enough, a little wider spacing or a line would separate them more clearly...
Between my bus lines and the reply button, that line seems to say its the bottom of the post...
Like this
There's a post separator that for some reason is disabled by default in Curve css. I enabled it and it's displayed on pc but not mobile. Nothing I can see in responsive css that should affect it. Posted a question in mod support topic, will see if I get a response tomorrow.
I see it on kindle. Refresh the page.
Thank you Krash, that did it, much easier to scan replies lvmci...
I'm not sure if this has been posted about before but here's two glitches I've noticed:
1. In old posts like this (https://www.busconversionmagazine.com/forum/index.php?topic=364.0;all) I'm seeing a weird symbol when people hit space twice to start a new sentence or other added spaces. It makes old threads tough to read.
2. When searching linking from google to "print-page" threads, the link redirects to the main forum page instead of going to the thread. For example, searching google for "t&l relay bus" the fourth link down doesn't direct to the thread. Not sure if this is worth fixing, but I've run into it a few times.
That topic is from 2006, odd characters may be due to original utf-8 conversion. When database was upgraded after migration, some tables were utf-8, most were not. After I converted all tables, most of the bad characters were fixed. Would guess this is due to age of the posts. May be able to fix it with db query, but I'd have to try it on my test install first. This is a very large, very old db, don't want to screw it up.
This printpage link works -
https://www.busconversionmagazine.com/forum/index.php?action=printpage;topic=364.0
Google link does not -
https://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?action=printpage;topic=364.0
It's being redirected from the old server address, Google hasn't updated all links to current address yet. I can tinker with the redirect, but it was supposed to be a temporary measure until old domain is moved and server shut down. Don't know where we are with that.
Post away - if you see issues, want to add comments, suggestions, etc.
Thank you, Phil

Show previous posts of this person does not show in my profile page. Okay, here is what I have discovered. This is happening when using Chrome, Mozilla, but it
will show in Safari.
I will work around it.
For reasons unknown, Hero Member group has very few permissions, you shouldn't even be able to post. Surprised no one else has mentioned this. Just checked my test install, permissions are the same in original database after upgrade, that's what came over from old install. I'll change a few things, you should see an additional top menu in Profile.

I've hacked into your account on test install running the original upgraded database, seeing same thing you're seeing in IE11 & FF60, 'Profile Info' menu is not displayed. Hacked second Hero account, registered new test member, same thing. Permissions are correct for all of these accounts to see the menu. You're seeing the menu in Safari?
I'm on FF61. I can see my profile menu - it's listed in the orange 'modify profile' button on the top left of the screen.
After doing a bit of testing, if I click on the profile name of other members and view their profile there is a link on the lower left to see the member's posts. It's called 'show posts'.
However, if I click on the link to view my own profile while I'm logged in I can modify my profile settings, but there is no link to view my previous posts.
If you're using dropdown menus, there should be 3 buttons across the top - 'Profile Info', 'Modify Profile', 'Actions'. If you're using sidebar menus, there should be three menu blocks on left side, with same titles. 'Profile Info' is missing in both views, that's what I'm seeing on test install.
Just created a test account here, gave him 600 posts so he's in Hero group, he sees only 'Modify Profile', other two menus are missing. Permissions are correct. No clue what's causing this. My admin account sees everything normally, so it must be something in group permissions.

That is what I stated before.
Everything else is snafu in Mozilla and Chrome.

Ok, everyone should see the Profile Info menu now, which includes post history.
Success!

Any update on how soon we might have tapatalk functionality restored?
I've recommended not using Tapatalk due to multiple security issues. If Gary or Phil decide otherwise, it can be restored.
I messaged Gary a week or two ago and was told Tapatalk support would be coming back.
It sounds like it's time to message him directly if you care about Tapatalk.
A couple of other boards I belong too have removed Tap/Talk from their forum, made no difference to me either way since I didn't use Tap/Talk.I wonder how many here use Tap/Talk lets a poll
Personally, I use the smart phone way more than the computer. It's not unusual for the laptop to stay up on the shelf for weeks at a time without being touched. I welcome tapatalk.
We use it especially when we are on the road and now don't use this board as much because of it not being enabled. Between that and having to put in My ID and password every time I come to it or go out.
Anyone who is having to log in every time they access the forum must bookmark the current url. If you're still using the old url (busconversions.com/bbs/) your login will not stick.
Krash,
have /bbs URL point to new one. Add rewrite rule in the conf file in the sites-enabled folder (Apache2). NGINX has similar feature.
There's a redirect on old server that redirects busconversions.com/bbs/ to busconversionmagazine/forum/. Works fine, but breaks the cookie and loses login. This was discussed previously, updating bookmark to current url fixes it. It's a temporary measure, as old server is supposed to be shutdown at some point, and domains will have to be reorganized.
Nice job, Phil and all the team, great work, from over the rust belt, Montreal,Qc.
Okay, here we go again. When you insert a (") quotation mark this thing is coughing up a question mark instead. It is also using a question mark for the (') apostrephe mark at the same time.
Which in turn creates an editing nightmare if you use any of the above mentioned characters.

Test: Now is the time "For all good men to come to the aid of their county".
Let's see if single and double quotes work now.
Humm, single and double quotes worked for me. Let me test something else. Maybe it has been rectified.
Step 1 - Try using a dash as in this case and see what happens.
Preview looks fine. Now let's Post.
Now let's try copy and pasting from a Word document here...

Now is ?The time? for all good man?s to come to the aid of their country.

Appears to me that if you create a document in a Word (or maybe other word processor document) as Krash mentioned to me that when you paste it it goes kaddywampus. But if you create it in the note space itself, it seems to work fine. So bottom line, worse case scenario is that all posts should be created in the editing window itself rather than in a word processor and pasting them in.
Are the folks having the problem with the question marks coming up, creating their posts in a word processing software then cutting and pasting them in? If so, this is apparently the problem.
Let me know if this helps.

Funny you should say that. I just looked at my Android and I did not see it there until I turned my phone to Landscape mode i.e. sideways. Try that. If that works, you may only be able to read the Forum lying down from now on. ;D
I always read the posts in the landscape position. Since the change to the forum, the vertical position is screwed up. Not a problem since I have always used landscape for this forum. Samsung S4or S6.
Hi Gary, thanks I see it now. I was going to say something snarky, like I only read it vertically, but I won't! Tom...

So have you made a decision about reinstalling tapatalk? Or is it still up in the air? I really hope it comes back.

Did you post from a phone or a lap top
I posted from my phone using a web browser but I really prefer tapatalk on the phone, it is much better for a small mobile screen, and there are several other forums that I frequent thru tapatalk.
What about the "ignore" button?
We are considering all of that stuff and even more, but have put further enhancements on hold for the time being. Further announcements will be coming soon.

As I understand it, the main problem with Tapatalk is that it replaces some SMF core files with it's own versions. This is a violation of coding guidelines, and, among other problems, has allowed bots/spammers to bypass registration security. Several forums have reported bots registering even with registration disabled. This forum has a lot of bot traffic, it could be a serious problem here. The replaced core files can also interfere with future upgrades, most of which contain security patches. Because the files are not core code, patches may not be applied correctly, further compromising security.

What about the "ignore" button?
Members can be added to your ignore list in
Profile -> Modify Profile -> Buddies/Ignore List. There was a 1.1 mod that added an ignore button to posts, but I don't find one that will work in 2.0.

Nice work. I know how much time and effort goes into running a board. I am an admin on a race club forum and the headaches we went thru switching entire boards was just a nightmare.
One request I have is to activate a "like" button that is embedded in each post. It would involve a mod as SM does not have it in the core code. I know if SM has as many updates as Invision Power Systems (our board) then it would just be a royal PITA dealing with updating mods that don't work with a core update or security patch.
It is a nice feature IMHO.Our like button also has a drop down with additional buttons of "Thanks" "HaHa" "Confused" and "Sad". The system notifies the original poster that what they post is regarded highly enough for someone to send a little notice by a simple click.
Here is a link to the SM "like" mod if you wish to investigate.

If not ... hey totally understand. Life gets busy enough sometimes as it is.
I?ve resigned to not having tapatalk support here. Bums me out majorly and as some have noticed, I?m not on the forum much now. It?s hard to explain how convenient tapatalk is to someone who has never used it, but for our crazy life, it was my easiest way to keep active on the forum. But I understand there are complications that come with supporting it. My major issue right now is that I absolutely cannot upload photos to my posts using my iPhone. It gives me an error stating the different formats I?m allowed to upload. Apparently whatever format iPhone used to take and upload a photo isn?t supported which is silly. Anyone care to explain what?s going on there?
Eyesore phones use two formats .png and .jpeg Both file formats are on the included list of acceptable (allowed) formats so it should upload unless the admin(s) have not updated the Tapatalk plugin.
https://www.tapatalk.com/download_SimpleMachines.php
Perhaps it is a simple permissions issue for the mobiquo folder
I am on 3 other forums that use this software they have dropped Tap Talk a few complained about the photo, there must be a way around it they are backing posting photos again
Don't need anything special to post photos anymore, here or at BNO.
That was a couple Mb picture at this end, all automated on both Boards.

You should be able to upload images from phone by attaching them to post using Attach: feature below post text window. I've installed a mod that auto resizes attachments, so file size doesn't matter. I believe others have posted pics from phones, so it should work for everyone.
I see the navbar has the crappy little icons, I'll try to remember to fix that when I'm back on my computer tomorow.
I?m not using tapatalk right now to clarify. Just using my iPhone browser. I try to attach a photo from my phone and it gives me the file type error.
Since the update, I can read posts comfortably on my phone in normal position. Before, I had to use landscape position. Samsung S4. Most of the time, I use a tablet.

What is the file type? Can you post the error?
Doing a little research, looks like Apple added a new image file format to iOS 11 around a year ago. HEIC files are new default format, I can add that to allowed attachment formats, or you have option to configure phone to use JPEG as default. If iphone users can confirm that this is the problem, I'll make the change.
Test.
this is my iphone 5 error message.
sent from the iphone 5.
note: sending (email) the photo to my WIN 10 laptop i am able to post.
i assume the IOS tag is .jpeg and win converts it to .jpg
.jpeg is not listed on BCM as an allowed format ?
Allowed file types: txt, doc, xls, ppt, pdf, jpg, gif, png
NOTE THE LICENSE PLATE :)
NOTHIZ ?
I've added heic to allowed file types, but there may be a problem with browser compatibility, don't think most browsers will display heic. One source says iphone auto converts heic to jpg for upload. AFAIK, SMF handles jpeg as jpg, but I've added it to allowed file types just to be sure.

EDIT: Success from iphone 5s iOS 11.3.1

Noticed the same thing on my Note 8 this morning. I'm using Firefox for Android. Get similar results using Chrome browser. I thought it was just my phone.
Looks like the table is scrunched towards the left-hand side of the screen, with columns not lined up with their column headings.
I'm guessing that something happened to the profile display settings.
I'm seeing this in iphone and blackberry emulations.
