I was viewing a Boatest and the boat had new Nicade (I think) batteries. The two big Diesels, genset and house batteries were taken care of by a battery bank that was about 2ft square and a foot tall. Anyone using batteries other than lead/acid batteries?
Could be an AGM or Lithium Iron (LiFeP04)
Lots of people are loving lithium these days but the main advantage is less weight. In our rigs a couple extra hundred pounds is no big deal. If you're in an air stream and want to boondock, yeah maybe spring for them but at 10x the cost I'll wait for a while.

Really glad you brought this topic up. To answer the question; Im not using any new style battery, though very interested.
To my knowledge the others can be a real investment in both cost and return.
In some of the others I would sure like to hear if some charger/inverters that are typically talked about here can fulfill the charge task of these newest batteries on the market.

interesting ;D ??? ;D

Other advantages to lithium chemistry are charging rate is much higher than LA, discharge rate is much greater. Practically, this very useful for solar systems as batteries can get completely filled in the shortest time. The C rating is the amount of current that battery can deliver so a smaller pack can be used to feed a high current as needed. Naturally, the battery draw down will be greater but it does service the demand when needed.
