Title: Seals around the front door
Post by: DominicM on May 14, 2018, 07:48:26 PM
I have spent the afternoon looking for the seals around the front door on my 67 MCI 5A.  Im sure its not a surprise that I was not able to locate any of the replacement seals.    Is there anyplace to find a replacement seal rubber or is this something that just slowly breaks down, falls off and is forgotten about?

By the end of the phone call MCI got really good at saying "that is no longer replaceable,"

I thought about using  generic rubber door seal strips from the auto store.

If Luke doesn't have them, try https://www.steelerubber.com/ (https://www.steelerubber.com/)

Did MCI mention how they use to sell it. I wonder sometimes and think there is a shelf somewhere with a roll

No she just said, No Replacement, No Replacement, No Replacement, No Replacement.

Luke said he has the inner seal, but not the outer gray bumper seal. I will look into going to a gasket shop and having them cut me a piece of gum rubber. Fastening may be my next challenge.  Either contact cement, or machanical fasteners in some sort.

Next is replacement of the overhead amber clearance lenses/ bulbs.  MCI has the 3 small ones, but not the 2 larger outer lenses.  Mine are all there but do show signs of age and I am afraid to take them off to replace bulbs unless I have a sense replacement available in the event one breaks.

You can check with these people

vintage parts 877-846-8243

they had the chrome strips for the accents on my MC8 entry door and the track they attach to.

They said I got the last ones BUT you never know about door seals

If you have a paint/body shop supply store in your area check there, they have all kinds of adhesives for weather stripping and weather stripping material and catalogs. Good Luck.  ;D
