Hello all, can someone here tell me when the 8-92 was updated from a "green"series to "silver" series?
Green started in 1974, Silver in 1982, but it would be best to check by the serial number of the block.
many of the green ones have been painted silver upon rebuild to increase price. Block serial number is best way unless you can tell the differences.

I will reinforce that paint colours MEAN NOTHING!!!
The "silver" designation was a marketing scheme by Detroit, read between the lines, the corrections they made to the deficiencies needed a whole lot of marketing, that older 8V92 had developed a bad reputation. Some brilliant marketing wonk dreamed up painting them another colour and harping the "Silver" word to distance the new motor from the old one.
In the busnut world, the colour of engine paint is whatever the it got painted by whoever did the last overhaul, and I've seen coaches with engines painted in place. "Rattle can tune up..." There are myths about colours designating source in old Greyhounds, but that's kind of irrelevant 30-40-50 years later...
Again, engine paint color is MEANINGLESS, check the block serial number, and worry about the preventive maintenance of both the engine and the cooling system by previous owners.

A green 92 the turbo oil feed is from the rear of engine,the silver will feed from the lower left hand front corner is the easy way to tell the difference
