From having to replace my Alison 740T last year, my understanding is that the gov't transmissions are often geared for military equipment and ground movers and are not what you'd probably want in your bus.
Though none of that was clearly demonstrated, I couldn't get a clear answer from anyone on how to figure out *which* 740T transmissions would work in my bus.
I do know that if you look on CL and ebay there are often 740Ts advertised like these for this price or often cheaper.
get an Allison parts manual for that model transmission. They will list specific differences between models of the 740.
Only differences in a Military 740 and a bus 740 is the torque converter, shift points and the huge oil pan and some have a the converter lock up for PTO drives
