The 12.7 going into my bus is a ddec4. Would it be worth hanging onto the ddec from my 11.1 for a backup? I realize that it would have to be reprogrammed but would it be economically feasible? I have no idea what it would cost to have it programmed. I'm trying to find out if it is a 3 or a 4, i understand that a 1998 could be either one?
On another note, the 12.7 is currently set at 370 and not sure if there are other options preloaded or not but hope to find out once its in and hooked up. Would like to crank it up a bit.

I bought a spare DDEC II ECM recently for my bus (only $200, including the fuel plate on top!). It was from an identical model bus to mine, so it should be 100% ready for my bus - the donor bus was driven into the salvage yard before it was stripped, and the yard owner told me that there weren't any CELs on when he drove it, and he said it drove just fine.
Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I follow the umbrella theorem - if you got it you won't need it, and if you haven't . . . I'm also going to try and get some spare DDEC engine sensors, "just in case".

You need to substitute that spare now! Don't wait till you need it and then find out it's junk. Then store it wrapped carefully.
Derrick you will have 2 more hp setting stored, 370 hp is good setting you have 1450 ft lbs of torque @ 1200 rpm 400 hp is going to be the same torque as the 370 hp
when I had to get a re manufactured unit from M C I I think it was $ 1500.00 and that was 8 years ago .
so yes keep it and maybe give it a try to make sure it works
