Title: Lock Nut moving Push Rod - Tips?
Post by: GnarlyBus on March 16, 2018, 05:36:04 PM
I'm adjusting the valves for the first time on my 6v92 and everytime I go to tighten the lock nut on the push rod, it tightens the clearance on me. Then I go back and try again and it keeps happening. There isn't much room back in there. I have the correct snap on wraparound wrenches but they don't seem to want to work together. I can't get the 5/16" to hold the push rod while I tighten the lock nut with the 1/2". They won't fit at the same time...

Am I missing something? I thought these wrench would make it easier. Any old timer secrets? I'm thinking I'm gonna go find a stubby 1/2" wrench and see if that does the trick.

Keep the ajustement loose and whent tou will tighten the lock nut it will be at the wright ajustement. It is a question of experience. Years and years of learning.

not so easy.

I bent my own 5/16 wrench and use a MAC offset 1/2 ... it clears better than a snap on.

Gave the DD Kent Moores to the apprentice...
I think the engineer who designed those caught his wife cheating with a mechanic...

ps. Use a .001 or .002 over gonogo and check/confirm with the spec....

I've gotten two valves adjusted now. Heh. Taking it slow while we're here at a park. Thanks for the tips and it feels better to know that this isn't supposed to be super easy even with these wrenches. I'm getting better at it though.

The valves are right before I adjust them. So far the 4 I've checked are closer to .005" so I'm glad I'm getting them set.
