hi,has anyone here had Flex Armor applied to their roof?If so, was it expensive, and was it worth it? Mike
Why do you think you need it.??>>>Dan
If your rivets are tight, a good paint job is all that is needed.
You can do bed liner material for about the same cost and it holds up better IMO
Are you talking about the roof coatings used on school buses? Elastomeric coating? It not only insulates the roof, but is good for preventing leaks. I think it only comes in white.

It a different product Geoff very pricey they had a booth at the tent in Quartzsite and were quoting like 4 grand for a 25 ft travel trailer installed about 20 bucks a square ft applied ;D it looks like about the same a bed lining type material to me FWIW.There is a RV shop here that does the Flex Armor he charges a $135.00 a liner ft for it installed
You can paint the roof with a good quality house paint, and It'll hold up well. Used it on my Brill and it looked as good 10 years later after scrubbing it to remove the usual build up. Never peeled either.
I use the white elastomeric stuff that costs around 25.bucks a gal. I wash the roof once and sometimes twice a year with a mild bleach solution and a brush and if the white is wearing, I recoat. My first application took almost 5 gals, now I got it down to less than 1 gal and every other year or so as needed. Just a matter of waiting for the right weather. ;D

I used "Bus-Kote". It's been durable and I noticed a difference in temps immediately. Not cheap but it does as it's supposed to.
Try silicone roof coating, NOT siliconized, Lowe's has one from Henry about $200 For 5 gal. Pail and enough to do your roof, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS INCLUDING PREP - HTH
Actually, I used the Henry product on my last bus, with good results
The trick, obviously is the prep. I wire brushed the complete surface and primed.
Was trying to avoid the labor, but for the 6500 dollars they wanted to spray, I could take some time off from work.
Thanks for the feedback
There's some selections here.

Henry's Tropi-cool is what I was planning on doing.

Everything is a compromise...
In the effort to seal/cool/reflect/absorb/insulate...
If the chosen goop has a texture, not being smooth...
It traps dirt, and you can get streaking down the sides when it rains.
No problem for those who like to wash the coach frequently, however, a big pain for those who wish for a less maintenance intensive clean appearance.
Happy coaching!

I saw the same Henry's on eBay for $85.12, free shipping, which is less than half the price and no tax.
Tropi-cool was the one I was referring to, be careful Henry makes a number of products that are cheaper, be sure it's tropi-cool, and do NOT buy any product over a few months old, it has a short shelf life - FWIW
Be care full on some coatings once you open them and expose to air they start curing so if you do a bus roof you need to do it all the same day. On my roof I pressure washed first and then used my wife's dual head electric floor scrubber and then power washed again before applying. Do not do it in the sun. Good Luck ;D ;D

Can I just do that?
I felt I needed to have them paint the roof with elastomeric roof coating.
I am hating how you can see the white roof.
I wonder how good the stickiness is between Tropic-Cool and caulks. Specifically, does it form a water tight seal with something like 3m 5200? I mean it's silicon paint. How many of us have been cursed by silicon caulking and/or gasket material?
I've gotten 8 years from a Bus-Kote/clear coat roof. It'd be nice to roll out a roof that would get 10 years. Then me bus be ready for the scrapper.
After 4 or 5 coats of Bus Kote/Clear coat over the years I finally figured I had enough insulation and scrubbed and painted over it with white Rustoleum. It has stayed whiter longer that the Bus Kote.

I remember years ago there was a company that came to the MAK bus conversion events and was trying to sell a product that you put on the INSIDE bare walls of you bus that had all these high R ratings. It was the talk of the Town (bus nuts) for awhile until we figured out the R ratings were from an outside roof coating, not applying to the inside. The company had a booth with heat lamps to show off his product.
Geoff, are you talking about the thin white stuff that came in a roll ?
And the engineers that frequented both Boards back in the day had little support for the junk science the vendors of these miracle products promotional material.
Thermal separation via furring strips and closed cell spray foam covers the bases.
George Meyers had a coach with the insulation attached externally, negating any headroom issues. Has anyone seen that coach recently? Curious as to how the construction has held up over the years?
Happy coaching!

Was that his second coach, the Gillig transit? I used to see his previous older coach around, but I never saw the Gillig on the road (just in his driveway).
I think George drove his Phantom to the Caverns MAK rally, don't remember the year, around the early 2000's? That was the time he had his bus conversion newsletter out, and he had a picture of my RTS with the Cavern's sign above my bus.

No, it was liquid. I believe it was nothing more than elastomeric coating.

Lol I didn't fall for that one but did spend 700 bucks on the white rolled stuff though

Put the ceramic in the paint when I had my bus painted, would have used their paint but the painter had credit issues he didn't mention.... May just get some with the klearcote when I do my roof....need all the roof insulation I can get...
