Post by: dbldragon on February 14, 2018, 08:46:52 PM
is there any where near mexico / southern California to have brakes repaired   travelling with some friends noticed the brakes were quite squishy and soft am heading back in a week from San Filepe and will be heading back through the Calexeco / Mexicalli border so somewhere on route before the pass would be ideal

If it comes to cold calling coach companies...

Get your needs clearly separated between putting it over a pit to inspect, and tying up a hoist for repair.

Nobody has excess capacity, they have their own stuff to work on with few hands. The easy responce is to say no.

Make it easy for them to at least put you over the pit.

Do you have auto slacks or manuals?

This might be an easy adjustment... fingers crossed.

Happy coaching!

It is a dual air system he may have lost 1/2 the system because of a bad brake relay it happens

The A2 weighs about the same as the A3 with 1 less axle for braking.if you smoked the brakes it will probably need new drums and shoes.
When drums get cracks from heat they will not hold their shape because of the cracks allowing the drums to expand beyond their limits for good brakes, it's going to you cost but there is no high price for good brakes. If you don't have Jake brakes you should look into getting a set for your 50 series engine

Yes I figured that I would need to get them done now and cost is not a worry really ,  Looking for the nearest and reliable place to get the job done before heading home .Hope that i could call and set up appointment from here to save some time as I am travelling with friends that need to get home on time .

Oh dear...

You need to be sure your down hill procedures are not contributing to the problem.

Changing the brakes and then smoking them again is a waste, and dangerous!

Now... where did I write that up before?

Happy coaching!

Guessing it describes when you are pressing the pedal to the stop, but are only just slowing down and not rapidly decelerating.

I experienced this when I first got our rig and found the drive axle was trying to do all the work with the front slack adjusters so loose they were literally doing nothing. The tag axle was loose as well, although not as bad as the fronts.

After I adjusted them it is much, much better, however, the drive axle shoes got glazed trying to do all the work during the period when they were improperly adjusted and they need to be replaced now. Once it comes apart I will have to evaluate the drums to see if they have heat damage and if so they will have to be replaced as well.
