Title: Lotsa busses for sale on the frozen prairie
Post by: bobofthenorth on February 09, 2018, 06:15:49 PM
After many years of the long suffering citizens of Saskatchewan propping up this money pit enterprise, the assets of Saskatchewan Transportation Company are being sold, much to the dismay of the many socialists who still lurk among us. I was at the tool auction last week and managed to keep my hands in my pockets.  My sons didn't fare so well and ended up with both their pickups full at the end of the day.  There is a long list of coaches, mini-coaches and trailers if anyone is interested.  https://www.hilcoind.com/sale/STCsealedbid/lot-catalog (https://www.hilcoind.com/sale/STCsealedbid/lot-catalog)

Judging from the tools they sold there is no reason why all these coaches should not have been well maintained.  These guys had everything and about 7 of most things.  My tax dollars at work.  The most frustrating part of the sale was the number of leather office chairs they sold.  You can see from the list of coaches that this was a relatively small transportation company but I'll bet they sold 100 leather office chairs.  Every one of those chairs had someone's lard @$# sitting in it on a normal day.  But I digress.

The equipment looks good.  What did 'em in?  I didn't see any mileage reports so was it wear and tear or just too many fat a$$es on leather chairs?

BTW, "What's behind you doesn't matter - Enzo Ferrari"--now as I approach the finish line I wish I'd been able to slow down a bit--- :D

They sucked on the public tit their whole life.  We finally elected a Premier with enough stones to pull the plug on them.  They got over $15mm in public subsidy last year.  The socialists say they should have had more.

They had 12 x Stertil-Koni mobiles.  I'm gonna say they were 18,000# each BIMBW.  They sold them in lots of 4.  The first lot went for $28k Canuckbux and the next two for something less but not significantly less.  They also had a massive old 4 post platform lift that was the bargain of the sale.  It was at least 35 feet long and it sold for $3500.  My son was looking at it but it was a little too long for his shop.

Wow, somebody paid too much.  I bought a set of new Koni's in '97 for 22K (US).  Hell I just realized that was 20 years ago, maybe they have gone up that much.  Can't get a grip on what stuff costs now days.

I bought unit 771 2 years ago and I see they have unit # 772 listed it is a parts only unit as it has been robbed of parts.
Wonder how cheap it will go.  :)

Phone them and ask.  As far as I can tell that Hilco outfit paid out the province and they own the assets outright now.  I don't know why they didn't go with RB.  These guys are amateurs but they made it clear that they are in a dealing mood and anything is on the table.  They kept referring to "private treaty" and sealed bids.  To me that means they'll take whatever they can get and won't necessarily wait until all the bids are in.  I'm not sure they've got a good handle on what these assets are worth.  I have to assume I'm wrong but that sale was a fustercluck.  Typical arrogant eastern clueless SOBs.

As far as the Stertil-Koni lifts go, I priced them out at a farm show a few years ago.  I can't remember exactly what they were worth new but I think they were over $10,000 Canuckbux per each.  Significantly over as I recall.  You Americans have to remember that our Monopoly money is only worth about 75 cents.
