Title: Fuel Per Hour at Idle

Anybody have an estimate of fuel used under high-idle per hour (6V92) ?

Fast idle is almost 1/2 throttle no load they use quite a bit of fuel according to the charts in the manual

In the early 80's, we ran an experiment with a fleet of fishbowls, 6V-71 engines.  Answer was two gallons per hour.  Wilmington DE, outside storage, winter.  On cold nights, we had to let the fleet run (fast idle, of course), or they wouldn't start in the morning.  I don't remember whether we were trying to find whether wiring the yard for block heaters would be cost-effective, or if it was to help me spec new buses.  Or, it could have been just because we wanted to know -- I don't remember.

However, that information helped me decide to equip the 55 new buses we were going to buy with Webastos.  Ended up with RTS-04's, equipped with 6V92 TA's, but I got promoted and transferred to another property before we had much experience with them.  You know you're getting old when you can remember buying brand new buses, and realize they've been long in the junkyard, as has been their replacements, their replacements, and maybe their replacements.

All I have is the charts for the industrial fan to flywheel 6v92TA a gal of diesel weighs 6.93 pounds per gal it tallies out to be 2.772 gals per hour at 600 rpm or 3.993 gals per hour at 1000 rpms with 9G75 injectors that is all I have,you have the alternator, power steering,Allison transmission and MCI blower to factor into yours I bet it is going to be around 5 gals +.Dave PC Industries has the fuel consumption charts on their site you can figure it for yourself

AS compared to running your Diesel generator that uses 1/4 to 1/2 gallon an hour.
