Title: Thank Gawd for Bus Conversion Magazine Bulletin Board!!!
Post by: Mr. T. on December 21, 2017, 05:30:04 PM

... it has restored my sanity somewhat. It did it by showing me that not only am I not completely
bonkers (like most of my friends are insisting, and which I'm slightly inclined to agree with), but
it shows that I'M not as far gone as some of you folks who are out there converting "Heavies" !!!   :D

It's reassuring to know that I'm not alone out there...

I've gotten The Bug, but on a somewhat smaller scale; a 2013 shuttle bus, on a Ford E450 chassis... to
be converted into a rolling Man Cave, for transporting me to astronomical "Dark Sky" areas and Star Parties,
as well as hunting and fishing expeditions. A rolling shelter that lets me pursue my passions with some
creature comforts.

A complete & utter Newbie here... and the adventure begins.

I'm still a bit dazed that I actually did this...   the shuttle has been purchased, and a couple of days
ago it was ferried about 100 miles from the seller to my back yard.

For the last few years I've been driving my usual vehicles...  a Ford Transit - Connect, and a Ranger
pickup. Transitioning from these mini trucks to a 25 foot shuttle bus was, shall we say...  rather interesting.

It's been maybe 30 years since I last drove a U - Haul straight job...   shorter, but wider than the bus.

The first 5 miles were hair raising. After that, not a real big deal. It's amazing just how adaptable us
human beings are.

In any case...  I may be in the wrong place on this BBS; while I LOVE the old, classic Sceneicruisers,
I'd NEVER consider buying and restoring one...  and much smaller conversions don't seem to be well
represented on this system.

But it doesn't matter if your thing is big Land Yachts, or a converted Short Bus Schoolie for a weekend
getaway...  the same urge dwells in everyone who wants to convert a bus. That makes us all brothers
and sisters in spirit...  a combination of adventure and unconventionality drives us all toward our crazy
love of reconfigured mass transportation machines.

In THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS, Mister Toad left his manor at Toad Hall to indulge in HIS passion, Auto
Mania, tearing around the countryside in his then new invention, an automobile.

I think I now know how Mister Toad felt...  I've been infected with Bus Mania.
