Well,
3 miles to the south of us and the area in which I spent a lot of time growing up are all in shambles as of about 3:00 am this morning.
" Deland Florida "
However we were once again lucky to be out of the path of the storms. They said this one was 300+ mph wind shear. Cleared a path from 2 counties to the west all the way to the coast.
All OK here. Power & Internet just can't go south or west right now due to road closures.
Christmas day was a LOT closer ( within 1200 feet of the house! )
I am ready to leave Florida now... The weather is getting whacko lately....
Dave....
Hi Dave,
Glad your OK! You can't blame it on me this time. Huh....I'm in Jersey...
I guess you have to chalk it up as a new Tornado season in Florida... [ Dec. Jan. Feb.]
Nick-
Dave,
Glad your OK !
We got hit pretty hard in middle Sumter County
I live about 5 miles to the South of the touchdown and am glad to say OK too.
I know there are some Busnuts (I believe Jerry H) who have family in the general area of Lady Lake and we pray they are all OK too.
Cliff
Dave and Cliff, We are glad to hear you have made it through once more!
Back in the old days, (LOL) we use to put up a sign that read: "Trailer Park 5 miles -------->"
I don't know if it ever helped, but we sure got a lot of laughs out of people passing by!
Dave, Cliff and all the rest of our Floridian bus nut friends & families. I have not heard if you are all ok or not, I sure hope so and of those that responded on this board I am very glad you and your families are fine.
I have no idea like everyone else as to what is becoming of our weather patterns that cause all this destruction and these deaths lately, I still believe that this "greenhouse" effect that we were warned about many years ago is finaly catching up with us for real now and is really causing all this mess we can't control. I just hope to not lose any friends I have met becasuse of it.
I wanted to get my Eagle done soon as you all know and head to FL. for the winters like everyone normally from up north of FL. does but you know, I have to admit right now I believe I will be heading a different direction in the winters of future years from here on out. This is only a thought right now but thought of it all day after seeing the news this morning and this evening. We can have tornado's also and do, they can touch down anyplace and have in the past. FL. right now this week to me is losing it's glamor to come and stay long or purchase property there because of the outrageous cost of insurance and anything to do with property taxation since Katrina.
I surely hope all you Floridian busnuts & your families continue to be bypassed by all this mother nature weather havoic and our prayers are that you all will continue to be safe. I can surely understand if you think of changing things in your life now, I know I sure would and plan to with our plans for any real long stays in FL. in the winters from now on every since this past couple of days.
I am just babbling on here now but I feel helpless here with all that devistation down your way and just thinking about it. You all have to know we are all thinking of you guys so keep us informed that you are all doing alright after these things happen as we are all concerned.
Take care,
Gary
This morning I have been watching NBC's coverage of the tornado damage in Florida and wondering why Florida does not update its construction codes to require more substantial buildings. After the London fire of 1666 the city rquired that all buildings be of masonary construction and the city survived the fire bombing of the Blitz in WW II. Florida has been hit by wind storms of various kinds for 200 years and still permits flimsy mobile homes that disappear in a storm.
I feel sorry for the people who lost their home, but the cost hits everyone in taxes and insurance premiums. Sometimes big brother has to step in to protect the unwary. The pictures on the news showing site built homes suffered considerable damage, but not total devastation.
I tried calling Jerry Hankins and had to leave a message.
That was yesterday about 5:00 pm, I have Not heard from him yet about his parents.
Nick-
[A destroyed home is shown in Lady Lake, Fla., Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, after suspected tornadoes swept through the area. At least one tornado touched down, killing at least 14 people and damaging hundreds of homes.] 20 confirmed deaths as of 9:00am sat
This pic shows 2 cars on their sides...
Nick, Cliff and others,
Thanks for asking about relatives ... yes, thankfully father and aunt are fine down at Lady Lake, FL. Yes, it did hit there ... and bad as you've likely seen on the news. I hadn't watched the news for a few days and received a call from aunt saying she was ok. It appears that their units were literally on the other side of the road from all the damage.

Thats Great News Jerry!
Thanks, It looks a mess down there...

Stan - FLA has the most stringent wind codes for both Homes and Mobile Homes of any state in the US. FWIW
Has anyone heard from Ace or Susan or Bud-ro?

We're all ok down here!
Just been real busy with moving, getting estimates on a building (finally) and a pretty good one too at a pretty good price, and painting new and old house, meeting neighbors, meeting relatives that just have to see what we got ourselves into, re-keying the locks with Manny (buscrazyFl) and that was the best fun of the weekend! I learned a lot from him and if anyone ever needs locks changed or re-keyd, he's the one!
Anyway, the most important part is, the building! It looks like it will be a go and be dried in by about the first week of March! Not bad in my eyes! Starting off small with a 30x30 with one walk thru door and one drive thru door! I will have to put the finishing touches to it but at least I will have a placed to put all the tools and machinery I own along with the other junk I have accumalated! Water and electric is already there and that should be easy once the building is up! It will have a 4/12 pitch roof with architectual shingles that will match the house!
Can't wait for all this to happen but in time I'm sure it will be over and done with!
As for the home? We have already started re-doing some of what was already started by the previous owner along with painting!
The neighbors are nice and welcome our music abilities (LOL) and our large bus! Already warned the nearest neighbor of visiting busses and musicians and they say it's not a problem as long as they are welcome too!
The BBQ deck is planned and already needed badly by all!
The grass needs to be cut but the heck with it for now!
Oh and Manny wants to have a "mini" bus rally there sometime. I think 6 will fit comfortable but he thinks more! Of course HE does!
Anyway... all is fine and Bud loves the donkeys in the neighboring field! Doesn't know what they are! LOL
Ace
Ace,
Cat and I are glad to hear that Bud is OK!
Oh.... and Susan & you too.
We were starting to get worried with not hearing from you for awhile.
We figured maybe you got arrested for having a bus similar to Crystal Gayles, yu know... wheels, door, windshields, etc.
Glad to hear every thing is coming along well with the new place.
Dallas

Ace,
Wait till he decides to herd them LOL. Let us know when the mini rally will be. I bought Paula a guitar at YeeHaw. I attended a workshop last Saturday at Craigs that was done by Becky Buller (Valerie Smith's fiddle player). Most of it was still over my head but it helped. Jack
