Title: Thread Drift
Post by: Lin on November 15, 2017, 09:42:55 AM
I am starting this as a new thread to avoid extreme thread drift.  I do not think that a drifting thread is necessarily a bad thing.  There have been many times when I have skipped reading a topic because I did not find it applicable to my needs.  However, when I see that that same thread seems to go on longer than it should, I take a look at it.  Many times, after the initial question is dealt with, these threads drift a bit into all sorts of interesting areas.  So I believe that a little drift not only can be a good thing, but adds to the depth of the community (dare I use the word "organic" here?).

I too think it is good the problem is though the search function here is not that great anyways and it screws with a person asking a specific question but it's there just takes a more searching

LOL I remember when people would catch flax for double posting on 2 different boards with the same question

Is this the same as sliding around parking lot corners while texting on your phone?

It's like drifting around corners in your bus, but doesn't require ice, like the bus does.

I think in engineering a "drift" is a tapered tool that you drive into a hole in order to enlarge it. Thread drift must be then tapping a thread into that enlarged hole I guess..

Its ok by me. Many times these post get really bogged down like compost, so in need of a flip or stir.
As we all know sometimes there can be a wiff! Of somethin and other times the stir just drifts away.

Good day

Well, sure. It's a time proven flavor in oil. I usually cook one side of the fish and flip it and then cook the other side because I don't like deep frying.

I don't know if the server can take all of this.

So do you like the old Darin or new Darin on BEWITCHED?
But I really think it would be neat if FORD reintroduced the FLATHEAD but add ECOBOOST.
But honestly, I think MAXWELLHOUSE and FOLGERS are good.

I thought thread drift was when the previous person cross threaded a bolt into in aluminum and when you finally get it out there has been thread drift.

Could be but they don't get much snow in Florida let alone drifts.
Did Clint Eastwood have something to do with drifting?

I'm glad you broached that subject.   It's not exactly a do-or-die matter, but it can be filed away for future reference.   You know the drill?   (I could write reams on this.)

When I put on a few Pounds I get thread drift and for awhile, it don't drift on back as It did when I was younger, if you get my Drift. :o

But is it a good drift if we don't get into Delo vs. Rotella SAE40 and their relationship to 15W-40????  I have some popcorn that's getting old and I need to pop it soon.  If we're going to drift, let's REALLY drift!

No, no, no.  You should never, never, ever buy any Korean or Chinese tires -- except those that the the best and cheapest, of course!

Are 21 year old tires still good if there are any tread left and you only see a few cords on the top. :o

If you fill your tires with propane instead of nitrogen, will that make it a hot wheels bus...

All
This talk about tires makes me wonder which coolant I should use in my radiators. Don't want silicate dropout. Could cause a tire blowout.

There's a rift in your drift for ya.

Heck, I learned to drift in a '63 Corvair Monza coupe, long before it was a sport!

Hellofalottafun going round a RH corner w/ the steering cranked all the way to the left!

Bryce, I once saw a guy cross dressed while eating a turkey and stuffing sand which and then of all things he got into a '63 Corvair and drifted. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171126/dced1efd3cd5b87d3980400d7ab9f85b.jpg)

I guess all this "drifting" is a good stimulation for our collective brains. We sure don't want to go senile while working on our buses. Sometimes thread drift leads to a good bit of information, so every message should treated like a wrapped present - who knows what is inside. Plus, Zephod has drifted away into thread history.
