Title: Oil
Post by: Billysurf on September 25, 2017, 10:35:12 AM
I have a DD V692 Turbo and am about a gallon low and in Canada at the moment (back in the US in 2 weeks) . When I return I will buy Delo 100 40.  It is not avail here.  My 2 choices are: Castrol Assuron 1815 cf-2 OR rotella 40 wt 550045382 cf-2

Either will work fine

I've used both and would again without hesitation.  The Castrol lists ash content at 0.8%, while Rotella just says "low ash".  Both are CF2 rated.  If you are in Canada see if Walmart has any straight weight SAE40 engine oil, that's what I normally use and it's dead cheap.

I have been using Miles Lubricants 40 weight. First 5 gallon pail from Amazon was $46 with free shipping. It meets all the specs for Detroit 2 stroke engines. The price does seem to fluctuate some. It is in the low $60 range now but still cheaper than any other oil meeting the spec.

The Miles lubricant is inching toward the $70 figure for a 5 gal pail. In 2015 Sears was selling a 55 gal drum for $411, it is now inching to $500 - still a good price for CF2 monograde.

Recently, WalMart Canada has discontinued carrying the 40w and 30w CF-2 mono-grade oil.....seems there isn't enough demand. What remains on store shelves is the last.

If you can find it, buy it before it's gone for good!

10-4 Mark, that's why we're looking at the 55 gallon prices. Miles lubricant has a few good reviews from bus nuts that are using it. I've used it before & probably for it's low pricing many have shy'd away from it but the price is on the rise like the rest of them...

   Hi all;
        A week ago I checked with our local petroleum dealer.  He
        has Phillips "66" brand oil for only $13.50 a gal.   It is 40wt and
        CF-2 rated.  I got two cased and changed my oil  this last
        weekend.

Was at Tractor Supply yesterday. Shell Rotella 40W cf2, 14.99 per gallon. I didn't ask if they could get it in 5 gallon pails. They had their house brand 40W, but it was only listed as SD. $44.99 per 5 gallon bucket.

10-4 on Tractor Supply brand 40 wt... Not suited for 2 stroke Detroit diesels... $14.99 is not all that bad a price when comparing to the highs of $21/gal. But double the price of the generic 55 gal drum price for CF2 monograde 40 wt.
