Title: Help! Trace inverter not inverting and cycling back and forth to shorepower.
Post by: NewbeeMC9 on September 14, 2017, 11:07:27 PM
Trying to leave and the Inverter does not want to invert or switch to shorepower. ???

It is cycling to shorepower/charging, then switches back inverter, but it's not putting out, it will wait 40 seconds switch to shorepower/charging and the lights come on and then.

It is an old trace sw4024.

Been reading the manual but this isn't mentioned in troubleshooting.

Any help is appreciated.  Didn't find in search. Will keep looking.

Try shutting it completely off and turning it back on. Unplug it and shut off the batteries. Leave it off for a few minutes.

Also, what is the voltage on your batteries and what is the shore power voltage?

Batteries were 25.7, and then started bus and had it on 27.5v.  I did try the reset shutting everything off, but didn't wait very long.  I will try again.

It has been sitting for a couple years also.

Thanks, Gumpy.  glad to hear from you again.

What's your AC input voltage?

You may want to check the AC input connections inside to cover. They have been known to loosen over time and then arc.

Also, are you getting any errors from the unit?

   HI;
When my Trace started cycling back and forth I found there
two cells that were bad on 4 "new" batteries.  Today the
      inverter is working just fine.
Maybe you could have a close look at your batteries.  If you
take them to a battery shop they can put a load  on them
      for a good check.

Hi NewBee,

I had almost the same problem 2 years ago, it turned out to be my transfer switch. One of the contactors in it

burnt and lost neutrals..

I think your own to something there, however, I have a 4 way switch and could go to bus batteries and alternator.  It was still doing it on the alternator.

I went ahead and drove across country without A/C power and stopped at a couple campgrounds along the way and plugged in.  I will check it out later.

I was unplugged from AC input. so it was 0, it would say inverting and nothing came on. then I plugged in AC and it was 117, IIRC, and then it would switch to shorepower, and the lights would come on. then about 10 to 15 seconds later. It would switch back to inverting and no lights.   No errors showing up.  Reset it multiple times.

Drove without it, will have to think about it some more. lol.

The internal relays in my old Hearts would occasionally stick and give similar behaviour to what you experienced.  The temporary solution was a good hard slap to the inverter case.  The permanent solution was new relays.
