Title: Buses as air BNB?
Post by: TheHollands! on September 03, 2017, 09:08:33 PM
Wondering if any of you ever use your bus as an Air BNB when you're not on the road in it? Have been thinking about this as time to time we head over seas and rather than paying storage fees, wondering if it's possible to make money from it? Maybe more work than it's worth. Craig

Craig, I know for a fact that people are airbnbing their camper trailers and fifth wheels in Michigan....for pretty good money too. You would need to have someone manage it though...clean it between renters etc. If you start to get any bad reviews because someone rented it and it wasn't cleaned or anything is wrong, you're toast. The good reviews are your ticket to success. Plus of course you need a full hookup place to park it for this to work. If you try it, keep us updated cause we are very interested in the air Bnb and rental market in general

There is absolutely no way I would let anyone, except my son, use my bus for any reason.  It isn't like renting a house, many of the systems need to have some understanding of how they operate. Heck even I forget sometimes and I built it. Other people don't use, clean, take care of things especially if they don't own it. As a kid I hated to have other kids come over and play, they just didn't take care of my stuff like I did and that stuff NEVER got replaced if broken.

We are like Somewhereinusa, our bus is our personal space, and nobody but us uses it.

Just to clarify, I'm not meaning rent the bus to drive, I wouldn't do that. I mean in a single location with hookups etc. Folks would rent it for a number of nights and then it would be cleaned. Kind of like a unique hotel experience. We've stayed in lots of unusual AirBNB's in other countries. Location is key though and as Scott said, reviews can do you in. Craig

In many ways, this is similar to renting other stuff you own. If you are not personally attached and it gets roughed up a bit, so what. If you are emotionally attached, that little scratch is a big deal. If fully hooked up and sufficient measure taken to control the fiddling with the systems and close to watch and be available if problems, it seems a fair trade. At least in CA, you can rent them for good money.
